In these times in which we live, you need a few dogs to let you know when there are critters (2-legged or 4-legged) close to your house.  Our dogs have killed several skunks which have been tested positive for rabbies over the last 10-years.  Each time it was during the day light which is not normal for skunks to be out.  The first encounter, our 4-year old was out side playing in the sand box about 25-feet from where the skunk attacked the dog.  We are blessed that it was the dog and not the child!  The second time, it was at 3O'clock in the afternoon when our child got off the school bus.   They let you know when "something" is around your house.  Keep in mind this is Blackberry season and we do have a few bears around here.

This is one procedure that you MUST follow directions.  If they tell you not to eat, there is not cheating here!  There is a good "prep" and there is a not so good "prep" which is usually not so painfree.  And often they only have to repeat the procedure.  Following the directions on this one!

Is there anyone in our Town who owns a cherry picker to cut down large trees?  I just can't think of anyone.

Why is this information not being released?  There was a high speed chase, what was the reason for a high speed chase?  If there were other folks driving the roads, would they have been in danager?  Seems to be many unanswered questions here.

I heard this briefly on the 11pm News last night.   I only caught a photo of a wrecked car.  It was not clear who was hurt, police or drive of the car they were chasing!  Today, on the News there is nothing about the situation.  Thanks for the update.  Do we know WHY they were chasing this person?

Current News & Events / Re: Analysis Of Costs By Fuel Type
« on: July 18, 2008, 06:48:22 PM »
Thanks for the information Fletchtb.  Still not sure about the private purchase of the tank or just to go with the companies tank.
We will be moving over to Jack Coarse ASAP.

We have run the numbers on our current wood stove and price of wood versus a pellet stove at this point.  Other than the convenience (safer) of the pellets in place of wood AND it is cleaner than wood, for us there does not seem to be a savings.  Pellets are going up in price in popularity and to locate them will be an issue.  Over all we have discovered in our research that wood gives off more heat than the pellets.  Because someone is usually home and the start up cost of a new pellet stove is an expense we have decided to go with some wood and lower usage of propane by 125-200 gallons this winter.

Is there anything we haven't discovered in our research on wood versus pellet?

I was surprised when I called about propane prices.  UltraMar (they changed their name AGAIN) price was $3.76/gallon and Jack Coarse's price was $3.16/gallon.  Guess I will be changing fuel carriers.  Does anyone have experience with "owning" their own tank verus the company giving you one?

We do have a wood stove which we have only used in emergency situations.  This year we will be using this wood stove more.  I think I will begin with 2-cores of wood and use this year as a benchmark for future years to come.

Good team work from the Community who REPORTED this activity to the State Police.  We all need to be mindful of suspicious activity everywhere we go.  Information is powerful.  If the State Police have the information, they can act on it.  Otherwise it is a successful crime which will lead to more crime!

Current News & Events / Plan for this Winter
« on: July 10, 2008, 06:10:27 AM »
Are there any ideas or suggestions on what the average home owner can do this winter about heating the house? I feel tapped out of ideas about where to save a little this year to place into my heating fund.  I changed the light bulbs several years ago and found approximately $12-16/month on the light bill.  Gave up my StarBuck Lattee last year when gas went over $3/gallon.  All minor car repairs are done in a privately owned garage, always has been.  Don't smoke or drink so that is not something I can give up and save  to put towards my heat.  I drive a fuel saving car with good mileage.  Am I missing something?  What will you do to pay for your heat this year?  How many cords of wood does an average home owner need for a 1,000 sq ft house if using wood to help off set the use of oil?

I agree with you!

That is why I feel there should be "jars" available now AND when we vote.  If you "want" to donate with no pressure, please do so.
If folks can not afford to donate, they could still be involved by donating a Firework JAR for November voting day.  Volunteers could collect the coins and wrap them for the Business Association.

We all know about JOE' pond in Hardwick, the Town places a Block on the pond in January and sells dates on when it will fall through!  This is how they fund their Firework Fund ... all donations which the winner receives half of what is raised.  It is fun for all the folks AND folks who stop for gas always takes a chance!  I live in Fairfax but always make a trip through that Town to buy a chance on the block.  In fact, people in NY talk about the block on Joe's pond in a little town in VT!
