Current News & Events / Re: More On The Voting For Fireworks

OK
If you want fireworks, donate in November (have a jar available) when you go to VOTE.
Then you will have two items accomplished:
One, the remaining total that must be raised (by jars, private donations or taxes) and
Two, this will give you an idea if there is a true interest if it were to be a voted on.

Remember, your gas bill has gone up and so has the TOWN's which means we are looking at paying more in TAXES next year before we add in $5,000 for fireworks!  Your home heating bill which cost $1,800 to heat your home last year will be costing you somewhere between $5,000 and $6,000 more this winter.   Just something to think about for many folks who are living on a fixed income or raising a family with limited income.

What is the difference  if the "Town" votes it in  and  you pay in taxes for the fireworks verus the donation jars?  If you live in town, you pay for the fireworks by taxes.  If the jars are available and you live in town, then you drop your money in the jar.  In addition to your donation, we will receive the donations of others who are here during the month of the fireworks but NOT here during the Town Meeting.

There are many who for one reason or another can not afford an increase to their taxes.  Remember these folks may have been the ones who helped to start the fireworks in their younger years.

Can the Business Association continue to keep the jars available for next years donations?  It doesn't mean you have to give, but it is there should you choose to give.  With the jars available, someone may recall the firerworks and donate based on what they just saw the other night!  Keep in mind there are folks who are annoyed by coins and will put them in the jar!

Personally, I believe we should be "planning" NOW for next year's firerworks.  IT WAS WHAT IT WAS, a lesson to be learned and now we need to plan for next year.  There are many folks here in town who really can not afford an increase in their town taxes and we should respect that decision.  However, there are many folks who arrive in this little town say about April or May (visitors, snow bunnies, campers or just folks passing through) who stop at the local stores.  MY POINT .... keep the 4th of July jars OUT UNTIL November 15th!  You might be pleasantly surprised at how much you collect!

Planning is important and if the fireworks did not get passed last year when things were good, well you need to have a plan B just in case.  In addition, there could be a fund raising event at the Fletcher School, like B.Y.O.B with a DJ during the month of Jan or Feb with donations to benefit the fireworks.  With these two efforts, the vote at Town Meeting could look like this:  Approve the Fairfax Fire Dept to set off the fireworks which were bought and paid for by local community donations?  However, we still need a location to set these fireworks off where folks can view them from the bank and J&L field which seems to be a Fairfax tradition.

Just thought I would share my thoughts:>

We went to our usual location at J&L Hardware Store to view the fireworks.  We could "hear" them and see a whole lot of smoke! There was a home owner who put on a good show for those of us thinking who were there to see Fairfax fireworks. We thought the private show was pretty nice:>

It was very common when I was growing up to have friends who had a relative living with them like an Grandparent,  Aunt or Uncle.  Perhaps we will be going back to those times where folks are going to have to "double" up just to pay the utilities.  It really wasn't a bad thing.  Infact,  in other cultures they respect the senior population with honoring the senior with "wisdom" which is shared with the younger generation.  The payoff is the senior has more time and passages to share with young children who are craving stories. time and attention.  Another payoff was usually, there was always someone home in addition to the over alll savings!

Yeah, the middle class is getting squeezed to death here.  They say it is going to be a long 18-months of this at best.

Any idea what propane will be running this year?

Now we will begin to discover just how many folks knew Jacques was up to NO GOOD but made the decision to do NOTHING!  Both Mother and Father HAD to have known about this relatives background.  Makes you wonder about many things ...

Don't be discouraged Judi, these kids do grow up and sometimes they move to another area or relative's house.

One night I was attending the Selectboard meeting and someone was expressing their concern about the ATV topic, two ATV's were speeding by, side-by-side around the White House while the Selectboard was discussing the situation.  It was funny but sad:< at the same time.  As far as the "big kids" driving the 8-cylinders, I just can't figure out HOW they can afford tocontinue to fill up!

Does anyone know more about the ATV accident by the Riverberry Farm?

I also believe being an active and involved parent helps BUT it takes a VILLAGE to raise a child, the old time saying hasn't changed, in my opinion.  The VILLAGE has a responsibility to ACT on certain behaviors as well as the parent!  Remember silence is a form of approval.  You are either part of the solution or you are part of the problem.  Education is very important on these topics.  Create an environment where the children CAN discuss these topics freely and openly.  You have to talk about it for the children to know how you feel.

Yeah, you are right the park doesn't seem to have many visitors and yet it has a little bit of everything.  When I am there, I am usually the only one on the path.  When visiting the park I park my car in the parking lot, so that I can get the extra 1/4 mile of exercise.  Even with that extra walking to and from, I am usually the only one on the path.  My dog loves the water and I enjoy the bench which is close by.

At these prices what's the point of looking for the best price?

I'm researching the pros and cons of the ZENN car.  Does anyone have information on this car?  I'm thinking if I installed two wind mills and generated electric, it could possibly pay for the electric to run an electric car!

Gas will be $4.50 by August!

Does that mean you will be sensitive to all children playing on the TEAM instead of playing only the most gifted?  How do you feel about several team members who are "playing the bench?"  I believe adults really need to review this practice of only playing the most gifted.  All children need to have a sense of purpose on every team in which they are members.   I have seen some adults view a High School sport like it was their child's only opportunity to achieve a college scholarship! As you know, from being a gifted player that rarely happens!

Let's not forget to count our blessings .... at least it is available to purchase.  Car pooling for groceries and errans are important plans between family and friends.  Combining trips with friends and family will yield a savings and it counts towards "bonding" time!

As far as the parked car goes .... your right there are many folks who just park and sit in the stranges spots.  Another good reason to own a Dog!  A barking dog does help significantly in this situations.
