Current News & Events / Re: Hot air balloon over Fairfax ?
« on: July 16, 2010, 11:35:16 PM »
We did go and had a great time.  We started in Milton in the park behind the library.  The winds were light and out of the South.  I was hoping for more South West winds which would have taken us more in a Fairfax direction.  As it were we ran almost parallel to route 7 and landed by the historical society in Georgia.  We were in the air for over an hour.

Ken is a great pilot and his crew got us set up and on our way in short order.

I'll try to get a few pics and post them later in the day.

You are so right about Ken and his wife.  One day a few months ago Julie had to go down to the school to work on props for the play.  She noticed Ken and others over Fairfax so she gave me a call.  I grabbed my camera and headed to the village.  Once in the village I noticed that one of the balloons had landed on the soccer/football field.    I arrived and met Ken and his wife.  I was asked if I waned to help to pack up the balloon -- 'sure why not'.   Then Ken asked if I was interested in buying a raffle ticket to benefit Camp Takumta.   http://www.takumta.org/   Of course I would for the kids.   I REALLY didn't do it to win a ride ( I'm not really good at heights ) but guess who won ??

So hats off to U-Ken-Do Ballooning for donating a ride to benefit Camp Takumta.

Current News & Events / Hot air balloon over Fairfax ?

Possibly!!!

Look in the evening, I would say between 6:00pm and 7:00pm this evening.   The basket, along with the pilot will contain the Filiberti clan.

Of course it all depends on the wind.

Pictures to follow.....

Thanks go out to Ken Levesque of U-Ken-Do Ballooning

Steve,
Have you ever thought about putting your station on-line?

We only registered 1.52" here on Buck Hollow.   I checked the station at the beginning of the rain event and noticed that it wasn't recording the rainfall.  I NEED to get up on the roof and change the darn battery.   Sounds like I missed the first inch or so....

Yo MikeF9,  Did you ever find a program to work on your pictures.  If not , or even if you have, you could try GIMP http://www.gimp.org/.  GIMP is an open source program and is as free as a breath of air.  GIMP will probably do what you need and more.

On your detour around the bridge construction, be sure to stop by the school and rummage for goodies at a rummage sale sponsored by the BFA French Club. They are fund-raising to support their upcoming trip to France next year.  The sale is located in the elementary gym. Hours are 9:00 to 3:00 today, Saturday, June 12th.

Uncle Mike's Thoughts Of The Day / Re: Computer Update- New Computer?
« on: June 09, 2010, 02:11:55 PM »
Hey Mike,
Our system was about six years old also.  About three weeks ago it died.  Opened up the box and discovered that the MOBD had some of the infamous 'X'ed out capacitors.  Well, a couple of the caps were bulging but a third was leaking its insides through the "X" and down the side of the capacitor.  I went out a bought a new MOBO, memory, CPU and HDD.

Anyway, I have two sticks of 512KB CORSAIR Platinum Series 2700 (333MHz) and one stick of KBYTE 1GB PC400 ( but it works with the 333MHz as it just runs at a lower clock speed).  That's 2GB of memory that was running together for years in my old setup.  You are more than welcome to it -- free of charge -- if you think it will fit in your current system.   Think of it as my 'payment' for enjoying your entries on this forum.

If you're not sure if the memory is compatible with your system look up the model of your system on the COMPAQ WEB site.  Or post the model here.

I would love to see the Baptist Building be utilized more than I would like to see more new construction. It would be a great location for a community center.

Saturday was the first I saw one too, even though my feeder had been up for more than a week. I have had them as early as the 1st week of May in the past and was surprised to see them arrive so late this year.

General Discussion / Re: Town Meeting Day Proposal
« on: April 17, 2010, 12:35:08 PM »
I don't think that changing to Tuesday will increase attendance. If anything, I feel it would decrease it.
Quote
The main thing is that people need to be interested in attending.  If they're interested, they'll find a way to go.
I agree with Trevor on this one. Obviously people are working all days of the week, but I think you are going to find more people who have a Saturday off than a Tuesday and I don't foresee many working people making the arrangements to take off of work to attend without a real good vested interest (like a voice vote on budgets as it was in the past). I think we will see the same paltry attendance at the actual Town Meeting into the future regardless of the day as long as it is primarily an informational meeting and things are on Australian Ballot. I think the traditional Vermont Town Meeting is a thing of the past in our little town of Fairfax. I think that there will be nothing anyone can do to make the majority of residents take an interest in caring and get them out there to voice their opinion with a vote. I wish I was wrong, but I just don't see it happening.
