I saw a photo on Facebook of smoke pouring out of the building. Heard there was fire damage to one room, and smoke damage. That's all I know, reporting from Jackson, Wyoming...

I put a link to this thread on Facebook, and a BFA alumni replied: "Yes. It was used to comb through flax fibers to make a sort of yarn/string." Do we win a prize? I hope it's a million dollars! I'll split it with my FB friend....

Have you ever read Judevine by David Budbill? He writes with a Vermont and sometimes French Canadian accent. One of his characters is a toothless old French Canadian woman, and Budbill writes what she says using mostly vowels. If you know a French Canadian accent, you can decipher what he writes and hear her clear as a bell.
One of my favorite characters of his is a local lift attendant working in Stowe who brings two pieces of bread to work each day, smeared with mustard. He goes in the lodge in the morning, and helps himself to a little bit of meat and cheese from other sandwiches skiers have stowed in backpacks for the day. He might be the same character who lives in a bread truck with a tree growing up out of the middle of it.
Then, there's those Bert and I records with stories from DownEast Maine. My brother can recite those stories word for word, imitating a Maine accent perfectly.
It's all music to my ears!
I remember seeing my dad on the local news one night, being interviewed for building Sterling Ridge Inn in Jeffersonville. I didn't know he was going to be on the news, so it was a funny surprise. After watching him, I couldn't help but notice his Vermont accent, which has been there forever, but I had never noticed it until I saw him on TV in his Johnson Woolen Mill hunting jacket!

I see the culprits in this case weren't wheezing teens, but crack cocaine addicted men. I wonder if they used to have morals, and drugs took their morals away? I wonder what it is they aren't getting from their lives to have to resort to drug addiction to find fulfillment. I know it feels hopeless sometimes, but I wonder what can be done to prevent people from wanting to put poison in their bodies.
Do kids at BFA get drug/alcohol abuse education information in health classes? I realize just having the facts alone is not enough of an answer to this problem, but I was curious if anyone knows.
Stay warm out there, don't get frostbite!

One of the things I like about your forum, Henry, is your frequent optimism, and positivity. I love good news, and you don't shy away from it! Your words and thoughts reach all the way across the country and touch my heart. Thank you for taking the time to notice and remark upon the beauty in the world, even if it's found in a bottle redemption shed! Suzy

It would be really cool if someone could video record the event....and the stories... I'd do it if I wasn't so far away...and buried under tons of snow...trapped in winter's icy embrace... (You get the picture!)

Dick, it's only MINUS 17 here with the wind chill this morning at 9 AM. I shoveled a bit already this morning, and it really didn't feel that bad, but I sure wouldn't like to be stranded in this cold!
New Year's Day: with a high near 5. Wind chill values as low as -15. Tonight:, mostly cloudy, with a low around -11. Wind chill values as low as -20. Sunday: Wind chill values as low as -20. Sunday Night: . Wind chill values as low as -10.
Monday I think the high is supposed to be one degree. It's gonna be a heat wave!!!! I'll keep my block heater plugged in at night until then...
Wishing you, and all of Fairfax a Happy New Year! Let's hope 2011 blows 2010 out of the water with massive amounts of joy, happiness, love, friendship, health and wealth to all of you!
