Picture of the DayMaple Street. It's either the late 1980s or early 90's. Either way, a lot of those trees are now gone.SMALL WORLDDrewCrash started a thread about it being a Small World here on Henry's forum.
http://www.vtgrandpa.com/forum/index.php?topic=8341.0Here's my story.
1991 or '92.
The phone rang around suppertime and I answered. Someone looking for Gary.
Nope, no Gary here.
Hung up.
Phone rings again.
Same guy looking for Gary. Nope, wrong number.
What number are you trying to call, I asked.
He gave my MY number.
That's my number, but no Gary.
The guy just flew in from the Middle East and was at the airport in Boston, and didn't have a VT phone book, so I offered to find the guy in mine.
He game my the last name.
Where does he live?
Bakersfield.
I know of a Gary in Bakersfield. He's a forklift mechanic.
Yeah, that's the guy. The guy on the phone is a roommate, and tells me his name-Tom?.
I told him I work in a lumberyard with a guy named Jim. Gary works on our forklifts.
Tom says he knows Jim.
I mention Jim has attended parties at Gary's place.
Tom says he actually owns the place and Gary rents.
I talk about how Jim has mentioned Tom and other people at the parties.
I find Gary's number, and told him to tell Gary I said HI!.
Tom says he will and adds...................
"Vermont is the only state where you can dial long distance, get a wrong number,.....................and still know the person."
