Britton's Statement on Vermont Congressional Delegation’s Change in Direction on Healthcare

On the heels of Scott Brown’s election to the US Senate in Massachusetts, Vermont’s congressional delegation is now divided on how to best proceed on healthcare.  In an article published by the Burlington Free Press titled: "Vermont Delegation divided on health-care reform,"  Sen. Sanders favors pushing the current bill through by a legislative process circumventing bi-partisan support. Rep. Peter Welch dislikes reconciliation to pass healthcare reform - favoring making healthcare more affordable and more accessible even if the legislation has to be broken into pieces and passed.  Sen. Leahy disagreed and said Democrats should take time to consider their options.

"I have crossed the state listening to people - they are concerned and frustrated with the health-care legislation currently being tossed around in Washington.  Rep. Welch said 'The spectacle of all the back-room arrangements that favored some people over others appalled the voters in Massachusetts, and rightly so. We’ve got to step back and get back to basic principles.'  And I could not agree with him more,” said Britton.

“I have consistently stated my opposition to the proposed legislation passed in the House and the Senate favoring change that people want such as tort reform, inter-state purchasing, and ending wasteful spending now.  What message are we sending to Vermont when all three members of our delegation who were on the same page a week ago are now headed in three completely different directions on how to solve the problem?  Health-care reform is not a Democrat or Republican issue - it's an American issue,” said Britton.

“Vermont needs bold new leadership and a strong voice to represent Vermont’s interests in Washington, D.C.  - Americans are fed up with the back-door deals; deals that Patrick Leahy has helped negotiate - people in Vermont and all across the country want their representatives to listen and respond to their needs - not a political party’s,” said campaign manager Dan Riley.

Len Britton, the Republican nominee for US Senate has been hosting town halls across the state on his "The Citizen Legislator Listening Tour" campaigning on a platform for job creation, a return to fiscal responsibility, and national security.  Further information about the town hall meetings and about Len Britton can be found at www.lenbritton.com.

Britton Calls on Sen. Leahy to End Support for Terrorist Trials in Civilian
Courts

Len Britton supports Senator Lindsey Graham's Bill in the US Senate to block
funding for civilian trials for foreign terror suspects.  The bi-partisan
legislation is sponsored by six Republicans, along with Senate Democrats Jim
Webb and Blanche Lincoln and independent Senator Joe Lieberman.  Senator
Patrick Leahy of Vermont continues to argue for civilian terror trials.

"Senators Leahy and Feinstein's letter to President Obama today state
"partisan distractions" is holding back progress of civilian trials for
terrorists - the problem is that they are the partisan distractions.
Senator Leahy's motives to continue pursuing civilian trials for terrorists
are completely political.  He wants to showcase the trials in an election
year, giving terrorists the same rights as you and I - and that's wrong."

"Zacharias Moussaoui's four year civilian trial and imprisonment cost
taxpayers over $200 million per year and gave him a grandstand to taunt the
families of the victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks on our nation.
Continuing down this path would be an egregious mistake which would elevate
the profile of the terrorist community" said Britton.

"Giving international terrorists expensive taxpayer funded show trials
played endlessly on 24 hours news networks across the globe are not justice
-  Military tribunals and our armed forces will give terrorists the justice
they deserve" stated Britton.

Len Britton is the Republican candidate for US Senate.  He is campaigning on
a platform emphasizing jobs, national security and fiscal reform.  Britton
has spoken repeatedly about changing "business as usual" politics in
Washington D.C.  Further information and updates can be found at the
campaign website www.lenbritton.com.

BRITTON VOWS TO REPEAL GOVERNMENT TAKEOVER OF HEALTHCARE

(Woodstock, VT - 3/22/10)   Yesterday House Democrats in Washington
passed a reconciliation bill that is another step toward the government
takeover of healthcare that the Obama administration has been struggling
with for over a year.

"While this bill has some positive merits, it was passed after overwhelming
public opposition which increased dramatically due to political deals and
backroom maneuvering in Washington.  Let's be clear about the content of
this bill - it will increase individual premiums 10% to 13%, increase taxes
by $569.2 billion, cut Medicare by $523 billion, and counts Social Security
revenues and Medicare cuts twice - once to pay future Social Security and
Medicare benefits and keep the programs solvent and a second time to fund
new benefits in the health care bill."

"This bill nearly triples the penalty on Vermont's small businesses that
cannot afford to provide their workers with health coverage, and applies
these taxes to part-time as well as full-time workers.  Businesses are going
to incur additional overhead making it more difficult to create new jobs."

"This legislation will cost Vermont jobs, take more income out of people's
pockets, and dramatically increases the size of government.  If elected - I
will fight to repeal this flawed legislation and work to provide a
healthcare plan Americans will have confidence in, fosters our economy, and
focuses on quality at an affordable price" said Britton.

Len Britton is the independent Republican candidate for the United States
Senate focused on changing "business as usual" politics in Washington D.C.
Britton is campaigning on a platform of jobs, national security, and
economic reform.  He has also pledged term limits and not to accept special
interest contributions.  Further press information and updates can be found
at the campaign website www.lenbritton.com.

To the Editor:                                                 April 7, 2010

In a Constitutional Republic, we traditionally have the opportunity to make our own decisions and choices. In the United States of America, we have enjoyed that opportunity , and responsibility, for over two hundred years. We have been empowered as individuals  by the U.S. Constitution and based on the choices or decisions that we have freely made.

Many Americans are now watching  with great concern as government takes on more power and control over the lives of America's citizens.  We know that the more powerful the government becomes, the more it costs us in the form of taxation and loss of individual empowerment to make our own choices.

The new health care bill recently passed by Congress and signed by President Obama is a case in point.  Although much is still to be revealed as to how individuals and businesses will be affected,  what we do know is that government will decide who will be eligible to receive what type of health care . We also know that American citizens , under the bill, will be forced to purchase health insurance that is deemed acceptable to the many new costly layers of government bureaucracy. We know that government will charge or tax businesses and individuals that don't play by the rules.

Also, as part of the health care bill, government has given itself the power to overtake the funding of higher education. How does this relate to health care?  Government can then decide who is eligible to receive funding for college, and perhaps what course of study should be pursued to qualify. Another usurpation of individual choice and lessening of individual empowerment.

The next step in taking control over our lives will be the Cap and Trade bill.  Government will further regulate businesses, and maybe our own homes, regarding carbon dioxide emissions.  Do you burn wood?  Do you drive an SUV?  Do you breathe?
When your electric bill goes sky high as a result of Cap and Trade, just remember that big brother government knows best. You don't count anymore except to pay the ever-increasing costs of a ballooning, fatally indebted government.

Now that I have mentioned just a few frightening laws and policies that our current Congress and the Obama Administration are enacting,  you do have  choices in November. One of those choices is to elect Len Britton ,a citizen legislator, to the U.S. Senate. Len has promised to serve no more than two terms because he believes that the longer legislators serve in Washington, the greater likelihood that special interests become the focus ( re-election funds )instead of the people who elected them. Certainly, many Americans feel that they are not being heard by the people they have sent to Congress. It is time to elect someone who will listen and apply common sense solutions in Washington, D.C.

On April 15th, Len Britton will be attending, and speaking at,  the luncheon at the Senior Center in St. Albans. Come and meet Len, hear what he has to say and join in conversation with him. Len has been touring the state holding his "Common Sense" Town Hall meetings.  Be sure to call the Senior Center at 524-6616 to attend the luncheon and meet Len Britton. I will see you there.
