Picture of the Day March 21, 2009

Birds gathered down by the rec path.

SPRING
Rather chilly for the first day of spring.
But at least the sun was out.
Man, seems like 20 years ago, we heard about a phenomenon that at the spring and fall solstice, you can balance an egg on it's end, because of the position of the Earth. I was actually able to do it. I need to find the pictures I took of it. I tried just a few minutes ago No luck. Must have been one of those once-in-a-lifetime-moments.

Those look like Starlings, not my favorite bird.  My front lawn was just covered with them for a few minutes the other day.  I opened my window to try and get a photo of them as it looked like a black mat on my front lawn.

Once I opened the window, or started to, off they went.  They scare all the descent birds away and back before I had 90 or so blue spruce cut on my lot, they used to build their nests up in there.

Bottom line, I doubt they serve any useful purpose, of course I could be wrong, because every bird, fish or animal has a purpose, just don't know what the purpose of the starling is.
