Another storm - a probable record breaker - has begun

Yet another winter storm - this one expected to dump between 12 and 16 inches of snow in the Champlain Valley between this morning and Wednesday evening - has begun.

This winter is on track to join nine other winters with at least 100 inches of snowfall for the season. The 2007-08 winter season has already racked up 95.5 inches.

The National Weather Service in South Burlington early this morning issued a winter storm warning for all of Vermont that will remain in effect through 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The "long duration" snow event will bring up to 16 inches of snow across the Champlain Valley and the north central and northeast portions of Vermont. Between 10 and 14 inches can be expected in Windsor and Rutland counties.

The snow will be heavy at times tonight, with snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches an hour, which will cause low visibility and blowing and drifting snow. Morning travel will be hazardous.

Parking ban and closings and cancellation information will be posted throughout the day.

I've been surprised we haven't had any accumulation yet(knock on wood!!).
I got home from work just after three pm and took Rex for a walk. I had expected to start trudging through snow, but not yet.
I still have to go up and get the mail. I'm guessing THAT'S when it will start.
Either that, or when my sister heads out from work to come home.
