Question about Boy Scout Troop 853...

when did it become 853? (A Change from 53).  And what were the reasons?  Anyone know?

Hi Brian,

I had sent a note to Don Flemming on this and he told me that it changed in the early 1980s, 1983 I believe.  Apparently there were several troop 53s so National changed the Fairfax Troop to 853.  He told me that they had kept their flag until about two years ago.  I am not that familiar with Scouts, but that was my understanding of what Don told me.  A special thanks to Don for checking this out for us and my apologies if I misunderstood Don's explanation.  Phones are not my strong suit.

Thanks....  I left Boy Scouts around 8th/9th grade or so the change would have been around that time frame.  (84??)
