Are there any local farmers who would be willing to share financials details of running a local farm? If possible I'm interested in pricing of goods and subsidies received. I have a degree in accounting and work with for profit and non profit companies. I've always been interested in the finances of businesses I haven't seen and this is one of them. Any help would be appreciated.

There is a meeting at the Sheldon elementary school on Monday...a food summit...I am not sure of the details, but there is an article on the front page, lower left, of the Wednesday Messenger...perhaps that's a way of connecting...

There's a new book out "Milk Money" by Kirk Kardashian. I believe he is a Vermont resident who's child's child's daycare provider is a Vermont farmwife. The book might help with some of your questions.

That's the type of things I want to talk about. The expenses and incomes sources. As well as how much basic farm products should really cost. I'm sure I could read the congressional snippets of exaggerated figures, but I'd rather talk to someone who would share actual numbers rather than random stats.

What kink of farm? Vermont for the past 100 years has been a dairy state. I think in the past 30 years we've opened up alot more to all kinds of farms. I know a few growing up on dairy farm myself. Give me a call and I might be able to help you out.

Thanks Tom. I'll give you a call soon. I'm interested mostly in dairy to see how prices would move. I've also wondered about haying and how much gets used for personal operations vs selling to other farms.
