John W. Buchanan

Westford - John W. Buchanan, 54, brother, friend, kindred spirit, left to be with Mom, Katherine, and Dad, James, on November 24, 2012.

John was born December 13, 1957; attended grade school in Burlington and Westford and graduated from Bellows Free Academy, Fairfax in the class of 1976.
He worked for the UVM Bookstore and Land Air Express, and liked getting to know the back roads of Vermont while making deliveries.

John's hobbies included model airplanes, cars and boats, rebuilding VWs, garage sales on Saturday, vacationing in Maine, hunting and fishing with good friends.

Little sister, Sheri, liked driving around while he held our dog, Corky. Brother and best friend Dale will miss his help and advice with vehicles and yard work. Older brother Kevin and sister Donna relied on him to fix anything around their houses. John will also be missed by many friends who considered him part of their families, several aunts, uncles and cousins, including goddaughter, Sabrina.

John, always the practical fighter, was attacked by an insidious enemy, diabetes.  Robbed of eyesight, he overcame the challenge with the help of modern technology.  Over time the enemy struck again with multiple counterpunches. Slowed by the blows, his spirit fought the brave battle against brain stroke.  May he be guided by the Light and bathed in Comfort forever!

Donations in John's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org) or to the  Nature Conservancy (www.nature.org) or your local community land trust for the preservation of Vermont's land.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday November 30, 2012 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at A. W. Rich Funeral Home – Fairfax Chapel, 1176 Main St. Fairfax, VT 05454.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday December 1, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s church with the Revered Charles R. Danielson, officiating.  Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the family lot in Resurrection Park Cemetery, Burlington.  The family invites you to share your memories and online condolences by visiting www.awrichfuneralhomes.com
