If this article comes up in March people should be aware:

By State Statue towns are required to maintain town highways therefore are allowed to include capital purchases for town highway equipment in their budget.

Schools are not required to provide transportation for students therefore should include any capital purchases such as a school bus as a warned item versus in the regular budget. However, the interpretation of a capital purchase can be some what of a gray area.

When you vote on Town Meeting budgets and articles are for current expenses for the fiscal year. You should not write an article that would include items for future years such as approve buses to be purchases for the year 2012, 2013 ,2014 and etc. and be added to the budgets for those years. This was done a few years ago and deemed to be inappropriate.

After reading what Upsy wrote about the State Statue, then what has been Resectfully submitted by our school representatives is ... incorrect!  Very Interesting -

I do recall that article and a few years being clarified as an illegal article.

Just want to put this back up on top of the list of messages for a reminder that the school board will be meeting tonight.
I am afraid I have not looked at an agenda but they spoke last month of making the bus decision at this meeting.
Take the opportunity to come out and be a part of the decision.
The meeting begins at 6:30

Please take a minute to sign the bus petition @ either Minors' Store, Steeple Mkt., or Nan's Mobil to show your support if you can't attend the meeting!  I will be picking the petitions up before the meeting- please attend if you can!!  Thanks!

It seems like it should be a no-brainer. The state was mandating the schools to look into the farm-out option. They did. The town mostly (it appears) wants the buses to  stay owned by the school. If those who are paying  want to continue paying, it shouldn't be an issue until they no longer want to pay for it. Everyone can heave a sigh of relief, until the state has the next bright idea that jacks people up for no good reason.
