They did have color 60 years ago, however it did not last.  When I scanned the photo, told my scanner to revive the true color.  It changed the brown graduation gown to its true color blue.  St. Mary's High School colors were blue & gold

They were good sized bulbs that fit on an attachment on top of the camera.  I thought they were costly and did not take many inside photos.  We sure have come a long way when it comes to photos.  I was really surprised when I scanned the photo and used the restore color button and saw it actually did restore the color pretty good, even though it did make the blue a little on the purple side.
