Armed Robbery in Georgia, Vermont

Georgia, VT 1/24/2011 – On Monday, January 24 at 1:33PM, the St. Albans Barracks received a call about a robbery at the People’s Trust Bank, located at 1127 Ethan Allen Way in Georgia, Vermont. The suspect advised that he had a gun and requested money from a teller. The suspect is described as white male between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing approximately 180 pounds with brown or black hair, has a dimple and goatee, and was last seen wearing a black hat black hat and black jacket.

The suspect left the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash in a four door green vehicle, unknown license plate, accompanied by an unknown person driving the vehicle.

Detectives with the Vermont State Police Bureau of Investigation are investigating this incident. The Federal Bureau of Investigations was notified of this crime.

No further information is available, at this time. When more information becomes available, the state police will issue an update.

Considering the lack of any attempt at a disguise, I'm guessing he wants to be a guest at one of the state corrections institutes.

Suspect Identified in Armed Robbery in Georgia, Vermont
Georgia, VT 1/25/2011 – The suspect in the armed robbery from January 24 in Georgia, Vermont at the People’s Trust Bank has been identified as Michael Haines, age 30, of St. Albans. The suspect is still at large, however there is a warrant for his arrest. A vehicle, matching the description of the vehicle used in the crime, has been seized and is being processed for evidence.

“We believe the suspect did have a weapon in his possession during the robbery,” advised Lieutenant Brian H. Miller, of the Vermont State Police. “Please use caution if you come into contact with Michael Haines and call the state police immediately.”

Detectives are continuing to investigate this incident and are in the process of identifying other people believed to be involved.
No further information is available, at this time. When more information becomes available, the state police will issue an update.

I used to work there as a teller and robberies were always on my mind.  You never know who is going to come to your window.  So remember to thank your teller next time you go to the bank!

Suspects Arrested for Armed Robbery in Georgia, Vermont
Georgia, VT 1/26/2011 – Today at 9:20AM the Burlington Police Department, along with U.S. Marshalls, arrested Michael Haines, age 30, of St. Albans, and Timothy Bentley, age 37, of Swanton, for their involvement in the January 24 armed robbery at the People’s Trust Bank in Georgia, Vermont. The suspects lead officers on a short foot pursuit, but were taken into custody without further incident. Both subjects were transported to the Vermont State Police barracks in St. Albans.

Both subjects will be arraigned in Franklin County District Court later today. Michael Haines will be charged with assault and robbery. Timothy Bentley will be charged with accessory to assault and robbery. At that time it will be determined if the subjects will be lodged and the bail amount.

“We want to thank the community for their assistance during the investigation,” said Lieutenant Brian H. Miller, of the Vermont State Police. “Their tips helped lead to an arrest in this case.”

Detectives are continuing to investigate details pertaining this incident. No further information is available, at this time. Please direct any questions regarding their arraignment or subsequent prosecution to the Franklin County District Court (802-524-7997) or the Franklin County State Attorney’s Office (802-524-7920).
