Other than it's uses in electronics and jewelry, I could never understand why such a high "value" is placed on gold.

Cedarman, believe it or not, it is written in the Constitution that only gold and silver were to be used as legal tender here in the U.S. The Federal Reserve Notes "dollars" that we use for currency are currently being devalued such that, gold, silver and platinum are rising in value. I believe gold hit an all time high again today, or at least pretty close to it!
