here is something to consider when getting a standby generator
will it be started automatically when a power failure is detected? or do you have to start it?
a lot of the automatic versions have a monthly built in test feature which is all ok , but the following items should be considered
upon starting does the engine have some idle time to warm up some automatic startup generators go full throttle immediately
which is not good for a long lasting engine, you don't do that to your car as I know it can get stupid cold up there.
also how many hours does the manufacturer recommend before switching over to synthetic oil and or will they cover the warranty with it?
I personaly think propane is the way to go. as it was I took care of when I was working--trouble free as long as the propane doesn't run out.
another item depends on how much your going to load the generator 80-100% of its rating be carefull there because with propane the power devloped is less than with gasoline
and you could overload the gen leading to more problems- like lower frequency

a word of caution as told to me by a local plumbing and heating man (here in south eastern Pa)
a lot of people trying to save money would fire up the wood stoves and or fireplaces to save the oil heater from running.
and in some systems having hot water baseboard heat, the water lines would freeze up in the heating system.
he told me that he had a couple of them do that.
now it does not get stupid cold like in Fairfax it still gets cold--no streaking.

General Discussion / Re: own a bus or purchase a contract?

just a note of caution here. First Student, a English Co. is buying out their competition one by one-at least here in Pa they may be lowballing contract bids but when it thinks that the competion is gone guess what --no savings.
also down here the drivers get about $5 less an hour and what bennies

hello, please do not beat your self to death over this. one thing is a contractor will do a mark up for material to to cover his time for grtting thre items but he also gets a contractor discount of 10%at lowes like veterans do( at least here in Pa) if he only ocketed 1300+ do not feelbad wait until he is done and drop this on him. added note do not trust BBB either as they will not put out any statements that can leave them open to a law suit. the best thing is to hire a local that you know or get a recommendation from a local IE Rod Annode I do not know him but by reading Henry"s Vt Grandpa have the feeling that he is above board (honest) also even if he does not do the type work that you need done will have someone who he will recommend.
the other item is insurance that the contractor carries check with the co. not his broker as he could be a worthless brother in law.and also if he is not local ask for at least 15 jobs that he has done so you can check him out if he balks at this tell him so-long. another thing that getting a local to do the job is that you know where the cook out will be.
I have told my finical advsor that if he does not get me enough money to live on I know where he lives and will be moving in (its called motivation)
I hope everything works out for the best for you. Fairfax does not have Vern Melondy anymore. but I am sure some one has replaced him.

most appliance mfrs have a conversion kit to propane but most will only send the kit to a propane dealer. I have ordered and recieved kits before but the last time  the kit had to go to a gas co

While volume would help reduce the dealers end price there is a question for you ,down here in Pa the county adds a tax to the fuel and they vary could this be a possablity for you too?

yes the St Albans railroad station, I remember seeing troop trains there

this is one reason charge cards should have your recent photo on them. yes it would be an inconvience but it would help prevent card theft thus saving you money in the long run. I know it would not help with internet or phone orders but they leave a paper trail as to where the package is shipped.
the photo's would be updated when the card is renewed. and yes there are problems with out of state banks that have issued you a card but they should be required to partner up with local banks for photo's.
