Thursday, August 17, 5:30-7:30pm: Escape from Mr. Fairfax’s Library
This Escape Room event will be held in three sessions, 5:30-6, 6:15-6:45, and 7-7:30.  Participants will have thirty minutes to solve a complex puzzle using clues hidden within the library. Sign up for a 30 minutes session. Recommended ages 12 and up. Teams and individuals welcome.

Saturday, August 19, 11-12:30: Lighten Your Load, Decluttering Workshop with Maxine Gautier.
This workshop will highlight common problems and outline strategies for success in decluttering and letting go, and how to manage what’s left. You’ll be exposed to proven organizing techniques you can put to immediate use in your home or office, and leave prepared to tackle that daunting project head on. Please register. 

Monday, August 21, 1-3pm: Solar Eclipse Viewing Party
The library will provide solar glasses for safe viewing of this amazing phenomenon.

Wednesday, August 9, 10-11am: Three Little Pigs
In this hands-on program, children will create houses out of different materials and see if they stand up to the “big bad wolf” aka hair drier.  Ages 6+. Please register.

Thursday, August 10, 6:30-8pm: Non-Fiction Book Group discusses Nickel and Dimed, On (not) Getting by in America, by Barbara Ehrenreich. In the book the author goes on a journey across the United States, getting “unskilled labor” jobs and learning what it takes to survive on minimum wage. This controversial book reveals both sides of America’s privilege gap. Copies available at the library.

Saturday, August 12, 11-12:30: SRP Finale with Modern Times Theater and Prize Drawing
There will be live acoustic music on a variety of instruments, from the ukulele to the bicycle pump, as well as a thrilling puppet show with “Punch and Judy”, all calculated to delight and enlighten both children and their folks. Followed by our grand prize drawing for the bicycles and other large prizes. There will also be cake!

Explore what these amazing builders in nature can do with the materials they find in their environment. We will have a special exhibit from Birds of Vermont. Children will try their hand at nest-making using natural materials. Ages 4+. Please register.

Saturday, August 5, 10am-12pm: Tea and Bristles
Join local artist Julie Griffis as she leads this step-by-step painting project, perfect for beginners. This month’s painting is of a majestic stag (see image below). Plus, enjoy some snacks while the paint dries. A $25 fee covers all materials, instruction, and food.

Monday, August 7, 10-11:30: Recycled Wind Turbines
Using all recycled materials, we will build wind turbines and test them outside. Ages 8+. Please register.

Author of The Woodchuck’s Guide to Gardening, Ron Krupp will give a presentation about his latest book, The Woodchuck Returns to Gardening, which focuses on year-round organic practices to grow fruits, berries, and vegetables. Ron will be happy to answer your gardening questions at the end of his presentation. Drop-in program.

Thursday, July 20, 6-7pm: Glow in the Dark STEM 
We will use glow sticks to complete a building challenge in the dark! Ages 8+. Must register.

Thursday, July 20, 7-8pm: Forest Management
Join Addison Kasmerek, a forestry consultant, to learn about invasive plants, logging, prescribed burning and Vermont's forest history. This presentation will include lots of visuals and will offer time for Q &A. Please register. (Drop-ins also welcome.)

Saturday, July 29, 10am-1pm: 2nd Annual Fairfax Mini-Renaissance Festival

Wednesday, July 5, 2-3:30pm: Solar Oven S’mores
We will build a solar oven in the library then go outside to test it out and heat up marshmallows to make delicious s’mores. Ages 6+. Please register. Younger siblings welcome to help eat the s’mores. SunCommon will also be there to teach us about solar energy and will bring their solar powered bubble machine. (Please note the new date due to the weather forecast.)

Thursday, July 6, 6-7pm: Lyme Disease Talk
Stacy Carpenter, from the Vermont Department of Health, will discuss the most common tick-borne diseases in Vermont, understanding tick behavior and ways to prevent tick bites.  Please register. And stay after to make an insect repellent that’s effective against ticks.

Thursday, July 6, 7-8pm: Make Your Own Natural Bug Repellant
Join our very own Debbie as she leads this workshop on how to make an all-natural bug repellant using essential oils.  (You’ll want to after the Lyme Disease talk.) Must register.
