Thank you for sharing these pictures.
Justin was a wonderful member of the Fairfax community and it is our loss that he passed so young.
I hope that Amanda and their daughter know we are all here for any errand or favor that needs doing.

Seeing as Carolyn is sending us info from the state house the title of the bill as written here has delicious irony, but I do believe we are talking about dual enrollment not duel.

Current News & Events / Re: Fairfax Fire Department Staffing
« on: February 17, 2012, 12:53:50 PM »
I feel blessed we have as many dedicated individuals in our community as we do.  They staff our service departments out of a sense of duty, certainly not for any personal benefit.   If Fairfax needs to fund one position to make sure the department is stable I think that is quite a bargain.  The alternative may be not to have a fire department in town and that would be a financial impact on each household as our insurance rates would sky rocket.  These very staff members who have been volunteering, work here in town at wages local employers can support and will be paying a share of this position through their property taxes.  I do not feel it is my place to say this is not a reasonable expense for the town.  The volunteer rescue and fire departments have both provided service to my household over the years and I value their dedication and skill.

Hi Dick.  My brother lives in Chicago and I commented on the prices on a past visit.  Apparently they impose taxes on the gasoline to pay for the road services.  The intent is not only to help defray these costs but encourage the use of the mass transit system.
Have a wonderful Christmas with your family!

Current News & Events / Re: Bus decision

Just want to put this back up on top of the list of messages for a reminder that the school board will be meeting tonight.
I am afraid I have not looked at an agenda but they spoke last month of making the bus decision at this meeting.
Take the opportunity to come out and be a part of the decision.
The meeting begins at 6:30

I am putting this back at the top of the list because the meeting is in an hour.
Seriously, this is your chance to give input into an important decision for our school.

It is not an easy decision.  We do have to step up to the plate and fund new buses if we are for having our own fleet.
Purchases have been put off, so now we are looking at a bus a year for five years.
But, the cost for contracting this service out has to include the same replacement cost for the provider.
I don't believe there is any financial savings in the long run for our school.
It is the responsibility of the school board to make sure they are being fiscally responsible, so I appreciate their request for bids.
I just don't want Fairfax to be pushed into a contract that is really only beneficial to those schools in the district that already contract this service out.

Please come out tonight if you can.

I am posting this message to notify any reader of the "Possible Action" to be taken tonight on the FWSU transportation bid.
The FWSU board is meeting in the Fairfax Library at 7 PM and this item is on the agenda.
If the board votes to accept one of the bids to be presented, Fairfax will have decided to no longer have a bus fleet.
Three members of the Bellow's Free Academy school board are on the FWSU board.
I believe that makes any vote they are a party to, binding for the home board.
Hopefully anyone interested in this issue will see this notice and come to the meeting.

Just got in from this evening's performance.  Boy are there some people with musical talent here in Fairfax. The production was well paced and scripted, and Mike did a wonderful job keeping the temperature of the "hall" comfortable.  Don't miss this chance to reminisce with our own local theater crew.

Announcements / "Green house" panels for sale
« on: May 25, 2011, 06:05:47 PM »
As the result of recent upgrades on my house I have the sections of three patio doors and the replacement glass panels for the same available for someone's project.  In removing the doors the panels were separated so to be reused as doors they would need to be rehung, but they are intact as individual panels.  I would be willing to entertain any offers, looking at a couple hundred or so but willing to talk.  Hate to see them in the landfill.  Barbara   849-6545

UPDATE    these are heading to the dump!!!    really wold love to get them recycled    please adopt them   don't worry about a price tag, take them but call now!!

I just want to say, your response reminds me of why you were such a marvelous principal.
It is fun to hear your 'voice' here occasionally.

I have got to disagree with your simplistic voting advice.  If you want to be involved in your own government than get to know the candidates and vote based on how they will represent everyone they represent, not just those that they get to vote for them.

We are fortunate here in Fairfax and Georgia to have two intelligent and responsive people representing us in Montpelier.  Gary Gilbert and Carolyn Branagan have been a wonderful team for the last several years and are hitting their stride in the work they do for us there.  Voting for a candidate just because they are the incumbent is foolish, but the reverse is true too.  Not voting back individuals who are so capable and willing to speak for their constituents is foolhardy.  Many of us hold differing opinions on the issues that are debated and legislated by our representatives.  Gary and Carolyn also  speak from differing perspectives but they do so with their minds open to what our concerns are here at home.  Both of them are connected throughout the session with us, their constituents, not just at election time.  They are working to help juggle the needs of our communities and the cost of meeting them.  Let's send them back to keep up the good work.

Current News & Events / lost wallet
« on: July 08, 2010, 07:28:22 PM »
I lost my wallet at Steeple Market around 630 this evening.   If you find it I would love to get it back.
There was money in it and I understand if that is gone but would really like the license and other cards returned.
Thank you for any help you can provide.
Barbara Murphy
I think I put it on the roof of the car and then left with it there.  So it may be along the road side from Steeple to Minors.

Thanks for the commiseration.  There is a chance it may have fallen off into the river so keep a look out all you fisherman.
I have already replaced the license and the credit cards are canceled and being reissued.
Other than losing some greenbacks and feeling a bit foolish all is back to rights.

Current News & Events / Re: I'm Hearing Nothing About April 15th

It is hard to stagger breaks when there is only one person working.
I remember when the Fairfax post office was closed from 12:00 to 2:00 Pm, so the half hour closing from 12:00 to 12:30 seems reasonable to allow the sole employee a chance to be off clock, eat a bite of lunch and use the facilities without interruption.  I understand the frustration of trying to get a quick errand done and finding that you have timed it wrong, but come on, we are talking a half hour.  Knowing the office is closed and planning around that should be doable.
