General Discussion / Re: Things I'd Like to See in Our Town

Russell,
Thank you...I will e-mail you.  Regarding the ice rink.... I read where the Westford rink is open to anyone. But we should have our own. they leave brooms out so when sisters are done, they sweep the ice. it's a rink that has high edges....for hockey players. We wouldn't necessarily need walls. it could be just a wooden border.

you'll hear from me soon. Thanks!

thank you Amanda,
I will e-mail Mark. Can't come tonight, but please do present these ideas to the committee. As you see from the feedback, residents seem interested in doing things together.

Sure...non- Drinking is fine....I have a punch bowl all ready...I'm sure we have local musicians who would play for us.
People could bring pot luck, sandwiches etc. it would be fun, because the community would plan it together.

Re ice rink..... We could ask the Westford folks how they did theirs. we could ask the select Board if this could be a project for Recreation Dept. All we need is some flat land, a wood border, and a hose....some lights for night skating would be nice.

when I was growing up on Long Island, our neighbor did this every year in their backyard. he put a simple wood border around his yard, ran a hose overnight...and they had a beautiful skating rink with a big tree in the middle. lights lit up the yard at night, and  they skated all winter.
we all had great fun there.....

We have such a cute town and I think it would be nice to be able to bring people together with fun things to do.
I'd like to see:
A town ice rink like the one They  have in Westford...easy to do...with night skating, with heating fire in those big metal barrels.
Make more use of the walking/ ski trails in back of the school, by allowing horse back riding in Spring, summer and Fall. local stables could rent out the horses and would be a beautiful place to trail ride ( no, I don't ride...but I can dream can't I?)
Barn dances....Someone must have a barn we could use......what fun that would be!!!!!

These are some things I would love to have/ experience in our town......what about you?

General Discussion / Recommendation for pet sitting
« on: January 01, 2012, 03:43:01 PM »
Hi everyone, Happy New Year!
If I may, I would like to recommend a very good and experienced pet sitter. Her name is Sheri Simon and owner The Pet Fairy.
www.thepetfairyvt.com.  I have had the opportunity to use her services, and she is great!  I had her come 3 times a day to feed and play
with my kitty Benny. pets are always more comfortable in their own home environment, and was not stressed at all. She stays 1/2 hour and writes a visit note each time ( I love that). She has a staff as well who walks and cares for your dog/s. It is well worth the peace of mind to all of us who love our animals. something to think about before you travel. I also like the fact that she makes an initial visit to you so she can meet you and your beloved animal before you go away. She's local, but will travel where she's needed.
my best,

General Discussion / The Man From Monkton
« on: December 16, 2011, 01:37:34 AM »
It was when we were new to Vermont,  about 6 years ago that  we had the need to bring our beloved kitty to the Emergency Department. He was very sick and my husband and I were visibly upset. There was a man in the waiting room with his dog. He just sat and silently watched us as we waited for the Vet to finish his exam. I remember it was late at night, dark, and lonely.  They decided to keep our kitty to see what they could do to save his life. The receptionist said the bill was 600.00. We didn't have the cash so we handed her our credit card. The man from Monkton walked up to the desk and insisted on paying our bill. We tried to tell him with our thanks that oh no he shouldn't do that. He wouldn't hear of it. He paid the bill without any hesitation.

I think of him, and I pray he has a blessed holiday. This Man from Monkton is an angel we will never forget. Our kitty crossed the Rainbow Bridge soon after that, and I'm sure he thanks him too. Merry Christmas to the man from Monkton.

Thanks but how expensive is He? Prices really go from 2,500.00 to 6,000.00. So cost is really important to me. Thanks so much.

Update:
After two days of research.....here is some general information for those needing a dental implant or fixed bridge.
Italy ... Many people travel there because the costs are so low... Implant there is about $500.00... but the airfare RT is about $1,300.00 and flight is 12 hrs.  Montreal ...implants there are about $3,000-4000.00 per tooth. Mexico is cheap, But right here in Burlington at the Community Health Center, they do implant with crown for $2,000.00. so given your options, Health Clinic in Burlington sounds right, just, and fairly affordable.
There are some risk factors for diabetics.....slower to heal and failure of implant is possible but still recommended even for persons with diabetes. Oh one other note... Smokers shouldn't smoke...also impedes healing.

hi ,
Thanks. Can you tell me the approximate cost? there seems to be a wide range at least between the two we saw already. One Dr. Is out of the question...office was dirty...won't go back there, and following the visit, my husband's tooth got infected!
thanks again.

General Discussion / recommend good Dentist? update
« on: December 05, 2011, 06:08:31 PM »
hi all,
Can anyone recommend a "good" dentist who does dental implant? We saw two so far...the first estimated 3-4 thousand collards ( ouch)!!!
The second estimated 6,000.00. double ouch!! And that's for one tooth! OMG we could go on a European vacation for that...but can't eat!

Anyway, someone out there must have had an implant that's reasonable.
Much appreciate it for any suggestions.
My best,
nancyd

Yes, Chris,
We Do live in the greatest town! When I woke up and realized the time ( post pick-up time), a panic slowly gripped my insides. Garbage left in the garage for a week is not an appetizing aroma. Pre- Thanksgiving. I was going to look in the phonebook for the collector's name .... No time, no coffee, no make-up, bad hair day, no brains.....where can I go to get a "quick" answer? THE FORUM!!!!
And I did... Within one minute! Once Mary Kaye offered me her driveway... I thee my pants on over my red poka dot PJ's, put my hat on backwards, and ran out to the garage! After I got my "stuff" in the car, I looked down and heard myself say "oh no!". My red poka dot PJ's were were down to my mixed matched sneakers! I tnought "I have no time for this!" I then quickly rolled up my PJ's under my outer pant legs and hoped they wouldn't come down again. Oh boy, I needed coffee! Well, as you know I made it and got home and waent to write a note of thanks to Mary Kaye. Then I see the the lovely note from Henry Raymond, saying he saw me. Henry, I hope you wear glasses because I was not looking too good!!!
That was my morning. Thanks everyone!!!
