Fairfax - Marvin F. Thayer, 84 of Fairfax, passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving family on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at the Northwest Medical Center in St. Albans.
Marvin was born October 24, 1933 in Cambridge the son of the late Gerald and Theta ( Dezotelle ) Thayer. On June 17, 1961 he married Catherine Steady in Cambridge.
Marvin loved to garden, fish, hunt and trap. He was known locally by everyone for “Marvin’s Gardens”.
Marvin is survived by his wife Catherine, of 57 years, of Fairfax and their children, Laurie Pidgeon and her husband, Dale of Fairfax, Richard Thayer and his fiancé Nora of St. Albans and Jennifer Thayer and her fiancé Miles Rice of Swanton; his grandchildren Jamie Pidgeon and his fiancé Anastasia, Jason and Joey Pidgeon, Kari Gagnon, Zaria Ainsworth, Brad and Brandy Lamore, Amanda and Ashley Thayer; many great grandchildren and one great great grandson; His brothers, Dean of Richford; Phillip Thayer and his wife Pearl of Fairfax, his sister Patricia Veno of NH and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, James Thayer on December 17, 2015; his parents and his brother William “Billy” Sr. and his sister Geraldine.
The family will greet friends on Wednesday August 15, 2018 from 1-3 pm with a funeral service following at 3pm. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

Fletcher - Colt Aiden Richards was sadly let into the Beautiful Fields of Wild Flowers and Sun on Thursday August 9th 2018, the day of his birth.
Colt is survived by his parents, Lewis and Amanda Hall Richards; his brother Aiden and his sister Mandy all of Fletcher; his grandparents, David and Jane Richards of Colchester and Frank and Julie Hall of Fletcher; his great grandmothers, Elizabeth Pickering of Brushton, NY and Margaret Minor of Fletcher; his aunts and uncles, Casey McNally and her husband, Tyler and their son, Klayton of Swanton, Doug Hall and Mara Quick of Fletcher and Kayla Richards of Raleigh, NC as well as several other uncles, aunts and cousins.
A time of visitation for Colt’s family and friends will be held on Monday, August 13, 2018 from 4 to 7 pm in the Minor Funeral Home, Route 7 in Milton.
Funeral Services and burial will be privately held.

Joseph Lazzaro, 84 of Stowe, Vermont died peacefully at home on Thursday, July 26, 2018. He was born in New York city on February 12, 1934 where he spent many of his earlier years pursuing his education, career and family life. In 1966, he moved and resided in Vermont with his wife and three children.
Joseph was predeceased by his wife, Claire in 2017. They were happily married for sixty-one years. He leaves behind his three children; Maria Kowalchyk-DeVito Ed.D. and husband, Giancarlo of Stowe, Vermont, Joseph Lazzaro and wife Sheila Sartori of Venice, Florida and Lawrence Lazzaro and wife Alydia of Milton, Vermont and blessed by his three grandchildren; Angela Lazzaro, Laura Lazzaro and Daysi Anna DeVito.
Joseph served both the United States Navy and Armed Forces Reserve for over a period of eight years. Joseph was an extremely intelligent person and had a successful 25 year career at IBM in Burlington, VT. As an electrical engineer and upper level manager, Joseph created visionary concepts and patents that set the path in the early development of micro-electronics. He traveled extensively in his work over the years.
Joseph was athletic and physically strong man. He loved the sea where he was a deep-sea fisherman and a lifeguard at Jones beach. During his free time, he sailed throughout Montauk Point, New York on his cabin cruiser. Joseph enjoyed playing sports and competed in the golden glove boxing arena. He later became an avid golfer and enjoyed playing tennis. He involved himself in many community services within his home towns including; coaching little league baseball, serving on community boards and a Catholic CCD teacher for middle school.
Joseph lived in six residences over his life with his wife and designed four of the homes. The residences were in College Point, N.Y., Westford, VT., Fairfax, VT., Stowe, VT., Boca Grande, FL. and Placida, FL. He loved his retirement years living between his summer home in Stowe, Vermont and his winter home on the island of Boca Grande, Florida.
Joseph devoted his time to the Roman Catholic Church were attending daily masses, rosary sessions, Catholic formation classes and donating to many Catholic missions. He especially contributed to the Covenant House in New York over many years. In addition, over an eight year period, he assisted with the food preparation for the St. Luke's Annual Turkey Dinner. Joseph was always eager to serve those in need. He coordinated Parish Rosary prayer hours to support Our Lady of Fatima Rosary and was dedicated in his prayers with the rosary to the Blessed Mother. Recently, Joseph studied for almost one year to become a member of the Secular Franciscans Vermont chapter for Secular Franciscans. His thirst for Catholic formation was evident in his reading from the Liturgy of Hours, the Bible as well as other Catholic readings within his reach. He had a great love for St. Francis.
Joseph was loved by many people and his enthusiasm for life and his Catholic faith was apparent through his great conversations to all who were privilege to know him.

A Mass of Catholic Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 30, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Stowe, VT. at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Riverbank Cemetery. A reception will follow at Trattoria La Festa in Stowe.

STOWE - Joseph Lazzaro, 84, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side Thursday, July 26,2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, July 30 at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church in Stowe. Interment will follow in the Riverbank Cemetery. Vermont State Police say the cause of a fire that destroyed a home on Cadieux Road in Fairfax on Friday evening could not be determined.
The Cape style home, which belonged to Ricky and Carola Cadieux was completely destroyed.
According to Trooper Otis, the building was too far gone when firefighters arrived to safely go inside to extinguish the blaze, but they were able to stop it from spreading to other nearby buildings.
Although the cause of the fire was undetermined, police would not say if it was considered suspicious. They are asking for help from the public. If you have any information that may help investigators, you ate asked to call the Vermont Arson Tip line at i-800-ARSON.
"After extinguishing the fire and speaking with the Cadieuxs, they found the fire to be suspicious," Trooper Otis wrote in a press release.
The Fairfax Fire Department was assisted by Georgia, St. Albans Town, and Fairfield Fire Departments on scene.

Rose M. (Desrosiers) Bourgeois
New Bedford, MA - Rose M. (Desrosiers) Bourgeois, 96, formerly of Burlington, VT and lately of Dartmouth passed away Friday, July 20, 2018 in the Oaks of New Bedford, MA. She was the wife of the late Ernest Bourgeois, Sr. with whom she shared 59 years of marriage.
Born in Burlington, VT the daughter of the late Philibert and Andronique (Duhaime) Desrosiers she lived most of her life there before coming to Dartmouth. She was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church in VT and St. Julie Billiart Parish in MA.
Mrs. Bourgeois attended St. Anthony's Catholic School. She later worked for Woolen Mill, Bell Aircraft in Burlington, and retired from IBM in Essex Junction, VT. Rose was active in the Cursillo Movement in Vermont, St. Anthony's Christmas Bazaar, St. Anthony's Minstrels, and St. Anthony's Choir.
She is survived by a son Ernest J. Bourgeois, Jr. and his wife Kristine of Dartmouth; two grandsons, Michel P. Gorman of Dartmouth and Geoffrey P. Gorman of Westminster, CO; a great granddaughter, Violet Harper Gorman; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Lionel Desrosiers, Charlie Desrosiers, and Emile Desrosiers.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, July 26, from 9am to 10:30am at the Ready Funeral Home South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Rd. Burlington; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in St. Anthony Church, 305 Flynn Ave. Burlington. Burial will follow in New Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Plattsburgh Ave. Burlington.

Fairfax - Wilfred A. Root, Jr., 83, passed away on July 10th in Barton with his loving daughter by his side. He was born on July 2, 1935 to Gertrude (Manning) and Wilfred Root in Johnson and grew up working on the family farm.
Junior, as he was called by most people, took various jobs around the country in his youth – he worked on oil rigs and as a logger out west, and was a coast to coast truck driver, with a story to tell from each adventure. Most recently he made his living as a burner service technician and an electrician. He was always willing to help someone if they lost power or heat, regardless of the time of day or night. Junior will be remembered as a very sociable storyteller who enjoyed playing cards, competing in tractor pulls, singing “good” country music and playing the spoons to his favorite songs.
He leaves his wife, Eunice Root of Fairfax; his daughter, Pamela O’Neil of Eden and his son, Kevin Root of Eden; his step-daughter, Robin Castle of Barre; half-siblings, Linda Labrie of East Barre and Bill Hadley of Crockett, Texas; three beloved grandchildren, Autumn, Andrew, and Devin O’Neil; his brother-in-law, Truman Breshears of Alstead, New Hampshire; many other relatives including an Aunt, cousins, nieces, and nephews; and his darling cat. He is predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Katherine Brien and Virginia Breshears.

Frederick Ballard Boyden, a loving husband, father and grandfather, 75 passed away on Wednesday July 11, 2018 after a long battle with cancer at his home in Cambridge surrounded by his family. Fred was born on September 10, 1942 in Burlington son of the late Winfred and Evelyn (Keith) Boyden. He and his wife Diancy (Montague) were married for over 53 years. Diancy has always been the love and support of his life.
Fred’s home, the Boyden Farm was purchased by his grandfather over 100 years ago. He grew up farming alongside his father and Uncle Stearns Boyden. When he was a little boy, he would pretend to have his own milk route around the farm and made maple syrup on the front lawn with local friends. He always loved farming. He lost his father and Uncle Stearns at a young age and was left to take over the farm. He grew the farm to milking over 100 cows and increased his crop acreage. His passion was planting crops and driving the combine at harvest time.
Fred was widely known for his infectious sense of humor and kindness. People would meet him and instantly want to be in his company. He was always open to change and had a wealth of knowledge. Fred has been extremely proud of his family with their foresight and business ideas to diversify the farm with the Boyden Valley Winery, Boyden Farm Beef, Boyden Barn for events, graphic arts and handcrafted chocolates.
Fred always took time to get off the farm. He was an avid boater with the love for the water. He started with small runabout boats when his children were young. Many Sundays were spent water skiing and cruising around Lake Champlain. As everyone became older, the boats became bigger. His boat of many years, The Udder Madness, was his pride and joy. Spending weekends on Lake Champlain with his wife, friends, children and grandchildren.
Fred enjoyed many years of skiing. He was one of the first to ski Smugglers’ Notch before it was a resort, blazing a trail from Stowe. He loved to ski, but his real passion was time in the woods sugaring and logging. He would find pure joy walking the woods, tapping, cutting trees and listening to the sounds of nature. He always treated the land with respect.
Fred was involved in the Cambridge community for many years as a school board member, Board of Finance for the Town of Cambridge and the Board of Management for the Second Congregational Church of Jeffersonville. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Fred is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Diancy Boyden, his sons Mark Boyden and wife Lauri, David Boyden and wife Linda and his daughter Stephanie Campbell and husband Matteo, seven grandchildren Emily, Lucy and Rachel Boyden, Laurence Couture, Juliette Boyden, Ila and Reuben Campbell.
The family appreciates the wonderful care of Dr. Nunnick, Dr. Dunn, Lamoille County Home Health and Hospice and special caregiver, Tracy.
There will be no public visiting hours. Funeral services will be on Thursday July 19, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Second Congregational Church of Christ, Jeffersonville. Burial will be private in the family lot in Mountain View Cemetery, Cambridge. There will be a celebration of life at the Boyden Farm from 3:00-6:00 p.m. on Thursday July 19, 2018. Please bring photos and memories of Fred to share at the celebration.

Albert Quintin, known by most as "Uncle Al", passed away on July 10th surrounded by his family. Al graduated from Winooski High school where he was class president and captain of the football team. He served in the US Air Force before going to work for IBM where he worked until his retirement after more than 30 years. He is survived by his son Peter Quintin and immediate family JoAnn Quintin. Jamie Maxham, Joshua and Jennifer Robtoy and his sister Rosalie as well as numerous nephews, nieces and grand nephews and nieces.
Visiting hours will be held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM Sunday July 15, 2018 at LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 132 Main St., WInooski, VT 05404. Fairfax - John Gideon Kirkpatrick, age 58, of Fairfax VT, died on June 27, 2018, at home with his family at his side.
He leaves behind his wife, Eda, and their two teenage children, Michael and Lillian; his father, John W. Kirkpatrick and his wife Joyce of Plattsburgh, NY; his sister Elizabeth Ann Clauson, her husband Cliff, and two nieces, Sarah and Rachel, all of East Hartford, CT.
John was born on February 11, 1960, in Glens Falls, NY. He moved to Vermont and started his lifelong career in the Air National Guard in 1980 where he proudly served his country for 38 years. His favorite winter pastime was snowboarding, which he took up when he was 25 years old. Eda fell in love with him on the ski slopes, when she took a snowboarding class and he was her instructor. In warmer weather, John enjoyed maintaining and improving his house and property, as well as camping and traveling with his family. He also served as a Scout Leader for Troop 853 in Fairfax, VT and helped coach lacrosse and soccer. With his family, he traveled to many places including Italy, Germany, Florida, British Columbia, and the Maine coast. He is remembered fondly as a generous and welcoming host at family gatherings. But most of all, his loved ones will remember him tearing up the slopes in a cloud of white snow, descending with controlled speed and grace, into the crisp blue and white winter afternoon.

Wayne Mack
Richmond - Wayne Mack, 80, of Richmond, VT passed away peacefully at his home on June 19th 2018. Born on June 23, 1937, Wayne was a lifelong resident of Richmond. After 56 years of marriage, Wayne lost the love of his life , Marilyn Casey Mack on March 19,2018. The family knew they would not be apart for long.
Wayne leaves his son David Mack of Richmond, VT; his daughter Sherry Miksek of Richmond, VT; his daughter Cathy (and Jamie) Fitzgerald of Underhill, VT. Wayne leaves his beloved grandchildren Shannin Miksek (and fiance Kyle Werner); Sarah Miksek; Josh Fitzgerald and Shea Fitzgerald. Wayne is survived by his sister Martha (and Paul) Lewis of Waterbury VT; his brother Jim (and Kay) Mack of Essex VT; his sister Frances Brown of Melbourne FL; his sister Marilyn (and George) Wallace of Dillon SC; his brother Mike (and Linda) Mack of Richmond VT; several nieces and nephews. Wayne was predeceased by his bother Bobby (and Elaine) Mack, and brother in law Gilbert Brown.
Wayne was an Army Veteran, and then retired after a 29 year career in management at IBM. Wayne took pride in his family and his home, and his passion was being surrounded by his family and his dog, CJ; traveling in his RV, watching his beloved Red Sox, and making daily social visits around town. Wayne loved a good joke, had a quick wit and a passion for storytelling.
A Catholic mass will be held at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 64 West Main Street, Richmond VT on Monday, June 25, 2018 at 11AM.

Fletcher - On Tuesday June 12, 2018 Henry D. “Hank” Rye joined the love of his life and loving wife of 63 years Elizabeth “Betty” (Hubbell) Rye when he passed away at Franklin County Rehab Center. He was born in South Royalton on July 15, 1928 son of the late George Harvey and Helen May (Perry) Rye. Henry was proud to have served his country as a Seaman First Class with the U.S. Navy during WWII. He enjoyed deer hunting in Fletcher and New Hampshire. He also treasured his once in a life time hunting trip to New Brunswick. Hank was a charter member of the Fletcher Rough Riders Snowmobile Club and past commander and first Vice Commander of the American Legion Post 35, Cambridge. He was also an avid bingo player at the East Fairfield Bingo and Jeffersonville Eagles Club. Hank had been employed by H.P. Welch – Maislin Transport for over 35 years. He enjoyed working at the Mayotte Family Farm and Maple during his retirement years where he always looked forward to his softball pitching practices with Anna.
He is survived by his two daughters Edna May Cole and her husband Stanley of Barre, Martha Jane Gillilan of Fletcher, two grandchildren Harold Wright Jr. and wife Lisa, Margaret Cole and four great grandchildren Abigail and Hunter Wright, Bruce Lamell III, and Sage Cole, 2 step great grandchildren Emily and Daniel Narsh, a very close friend Lesley Combs and several cousins.
He is also predeceased by his infant daughter, step-father Scott Russin and son-in-law Raymond Gillilan.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday June 16, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of service at 1:00 p.m. at A W Rich Funeral Home – Fairfax Chapel, 1176 Main Street, Fairfax. Burial will follow in the family lot in Binghamville Center. Lorraine M. Siple, 91 years young, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2018 at the McClure-Miller VNA Respite House after a brief illness. Lorraine was born on May 1, 1927, the daughter of Wilfred and Elizabeth Livingston. She grew up in Williston, VT until the family moved to Newburgh, NY where she attended high school. She later moved back to Vermont and was employed at IBM from 1958 until her “retirement”, where she continued to work part time. She was employed at the UVMMC for the past 15 years as a patient attendant, a job she thoroughly loved.
Line dancing was her passion and she was always sure to take Thursday nights off to dance the night away. She enjoyed her home in St. Petersburg Beach, Fl from January until May. She was quite the social butterfly and her door was always open to her snowbird friends. She equally enjoyed her summers at her camp in Colchester, where she found peace and quiet.
She leaves behind her loving family, daughter Charlene (Jamie Mack), whom she resided with for the past 9 years, granddaughter Jennifer Valyou-Hopkins, grandson Jamie Valyou and wife Lisa, great grandchildren Isabelle and Brody Hopkins, and Ezra, Cyrus, and Nehemiah Valyou, her BFF Linda Fonseca, Steve and Joyce Bove, caregiver Donna Burnett and many many friends in Florida and Vermont. She was predeceased by the love of her life John Bove, her parents, sisters Fran, Betty, Peg and Joanne, and Bob Valyou.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM Sunday June 17 at LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 132 Main St., Winooski, Vt 05404. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM Monday June 18 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church 160 Hinesburg Rd, South Burlington, VT 05403, with burial to follow at Resurrection Park Cemetery. William “Bill” Muzzy died peacefully at Respite House in Colchester VT on June 2, 2018 due to congestive heart failure. He was 81. Present at the time of death were his Wife of 59 years Ramona “Mona” Muzzy and his youngest son Raymond Muzzy.
Bill was born August 9, 1936 in Middlebury VT to his parents George F. Muzzy and Flora (Perkins) Muzzy. He graduated from Edmunds High School in 1955 and worked at Brewer Bothers Motors until 1965 when he went to work for IBM in Essex Jct. VT as a machinist and tool-maker. While there he became interested in the industrial glass shop. He applied for a transfer, trained and became an expert industrial glassblower. He spent most of his career there, making many improvements and contributions to the processes at the glass shop and eventually travelled throughout the U.S. conducting trainings at other IBM sites.
He married Ramona Sears in 1959 and together they raised 3 sons, 3 dogs, and 3 cats at their home in Shelburne where he resided until just a few weeks prior to his death. He enjoyed camping, cars, and country music. In his later years he developed and maintained many friendships on FaceBook.
He is survived by his three sons and their families: Brion and Nancy Muzzy, Michael Muzzy and Maris Rose, Raymond and Carol Muzzy, eight grandchildren : Daniel, Douglas, Dalton, Kristi, Amanda, Will and Ben Muzzy, Samantha Laurencelle and her husband Avery, Three great-grandchildren: Lily Blair, Oliver and Azaria Laurencelle, a niece: Jennifer and Mike Staats and daughter Holly, a nephew: Seth Muzzy and husband Ron Amato, and several cousins and their families. He is preceded in death by his brother Ralph Muzzy.
A Catholic Mass and burial will be held at St. Catherine of Sienna church in Shelburne VT on Friday June 8, at 12:15 pm. There will be a reception at the church hall immediately after. Per his request there will be no calling hours.
