Current News & Events / Re: Fairfax Voting Results

While I understand the need for the new town office the number that is too big to me is the $150,000 for 2 acres of land.  Has this price of land really gone that high?  If that is the what the people selling it are trying to get out of the taxpayers of Fairfax then maybe the town should re-asses the rest of the sellers land and charge them taxes based on $75,000 per acre.  The cost per acre seems steep to me.  That being said I did vote in favor of building the new office.

General Discussion / Re: GOV Shumlin Skips Screening at BVT
« on: March 01, 2012, 08:06:09 PM »
There's a list of people who do not go through screening by TSA - governors, Senators, Representatives, LEOs, pilots with firearms and numerous others.  Governor Douglas never went through screening at BTV either.  I have seen Sens Leahy and Sanders and Rep Welch go through screening.  When the governor travels on business it is usually with a member of the State Police so I personally don't think it matters if he goes through or not since the person he is traveling with has a firearm.  If I remember correctly when he travels for pleasure then he must go through the normal screening process.

Thor,

Some more video of the same incident - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWur3EgwxKw&feature=related and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAmVKdQDkeI&feature=related

Some background on Occupy Cal -

There is a ton more information out there if you care to look for it.

I am not a police officer but I can in no way see how the officers in this situation could feel threatened AT ALL.  Yes, there are a large number of protesters but they are in NO WAY demonstrating any hostility towards the police.  Was the force used a "reasonable level?"  In my opinion, no.

As to the proper permits - really?  Do you think a permit will be issued to any of these protests/demonstrations?  The idea is that people are fed up and have decided to take action.  I am not here to agree or disagree with the Occupy movement.  What I don't agree with is the uncalled for use of force on clearly peaceful demonstrators.  And, yes, I too am a working stiff trying to provide for my family, but that has no bearing on how I view this situation.

One more just for fun - http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/402024/november-10-2011/occupy-u-c--berkeley

I'm unsure of how a man shooting himself has anything to do Bob Kiss allowing the occupy camp to remain there.  Thor, as for "These "Occupy Wherever" folks seem to be doing a fairly poor job at "Peaceably Assembling". Even if they have any legitimate gripe, their actions speak way louder than their words. And it only takes a couple of parasitic knuckleheads to define an entire group. Perhaps the Occupiers should really police their own!!" - I think you should take a look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buovLQ9qyWQ.  Do the knuckleheads in the video beating unarmed people define an entire group?  I believe the actions, or non-actions, of the protesters speak volumes as opposed to the actions of the police.

**Some people may find the content of the video upsetting.

How unfortunate that only 336 people felt this issue was important enough to vote on.

General Discussion / Egg Run
« on: August 06, 2011, 06:44:28 PM »
A big Thank You to all the volunteers at the Egg Run today!  From the perspective of a runner it was great!  Plenty of water stations and the spectators with water guns were a welcome relief.  A very nice course for my first 10K.  Thanks also to all those that put in lots of time and hard work to make this happen.  I can't wait til next year!

A parade in town would be great.  So would a community gathering on the 4th.  All the better if it benefits the fire department or rescue squad.
