If you are so anti Immigration Enforcement then why do you work for ICE?  Isn't your job to find Illegals and remove them from our country?

You've completely misunderstood, apparently.  I think there should be smart, effective, efficient, and fair enforcement.   It is essential to realize that serious issues or questions do not have a yes/no or black/white answer.  It just isnt that simple when you are dealing with complicated real-world problems.  Those who think such problems can be solved with emotional partisan rhetoric are only making it harder to solve them, because of all the empty sound and fury.  Ideologues of every political persuasion fall victim to the “us vs them” mentality, which only adds to the chaos.  It’s a huge waste of time and energy.

Reviews / movie: Drive
« on: September 20, 2011, 10:01:14 AM »
Very very boring.  I think they tried to make an artistic action film, but it just turned out being super-slow and dull.  With little to no character development, we didnt care about any of the characters.  Dialogue was so sparse that the main character played by Ryan Gosling only said more than a dozen words at a time twice (I started counting to amuse myself).  Not even a good movie for car-chases, surprisingly.

Locatavius, if you are intending try to change the minds of ideologues with facts, you’ll be embarking on a futile effort.  It never works. ;)

Announcements / primed spruce siding for sale
« on: September 20, 2011, 09:04:42 AM »
We have about 75 pieces of 16-foot long, 6-inch wide primed-spruce siding in our barn that was left behind by the previous owners.  There are a handful of shorter pieces as well.  They are covered with tarps so should be good as new.  We are getting fiber-cement siding, so we dont need it.  We're asking $525 (or best offer) for all of it which is about 75% of the going rate.  Buyer would need to transport the material.

Also willing to sell smaller portions if that's all someone wants.  Would like to get rid of this soon, as our fiber-cement siding should be arriving within a week.

Reply here, email me at mkbeyna@yahoo.com, or call us at 849-2695.

The opinions of people who personally attack others in what is supposed to be a civil discussion, are almost never based on facts.  These people generally "believe" rather than "think", regardless of the facts.

I work in immigration enforcement, and I find some of the comments here too silly to be worth addressing.

Geez...crazy drivers.  Some small boulders around the perimeter of the property along the road might be good if cars keep hitting the house.

Uncle Mike's Thoughts Of The Day / Re: Pictures-Under the Covered Bridge
« on: August 23, 2011, 09:37:29 AM »
A good thing the bridge was raised 2 feet.  This spring, the water level was up to about 12 - 18" below the bottom of the bridge.  If it hadnt been raised back then, it might have been washed away this past May.

Also the "permanently cancelled" was a big tip-off.  Like any company would want to permanently lose customers and revenue.

Current News & Events / Re: Tomatoe Blight is Here

We have late blight that has been gradually progessing, but not the worse early blight.  I already dug up all the potatoes because the foliage was more yellow than green.

I just read the article and all the comments.  One thing I have noticed about online commenters, that the majority of them will say something negative, no matter what the article may be about or what site it is on.  You can see this even in the "political comments" section of this site.  I think this is because if people are upset or pissed about something then they are much more likely to speak up, which is only natural.

As to the matter of the bus-driver, we've only been in Fairfax less than 4 years (and we dont have kids), and I dont really know the details.  So there is little point in me commenting on something from a standpoint of ignorance.

As to the "hillbillies on porches with guns" comment:  Well I see people on their porches a lot, and they can be too noisy sometimes, but havent seen any guns so far. :)

Thanks Henry. :)  Actually, I noticed in the photo in the original post there is a small container of our tomatoes, with both Sungold and red cherry ones in it.

We are selling some of our extra produce through Marvin's Gardens, including Sungold tomatoes.  They are orange cherry tomatoes that have a very sweet flavor.  They do not ever turn red, so dont be put off by the orange/yellow color.  In the grocery store they are quite expensive, so they are a great bargain at the veggie stand.

We do not use any chemicals or poisons at all, so our veggies would qualify as organic.

Current News & Events / Re: Strawberries Will Be Late This Year
« on: June 10, 2011, 07:49:26 AM »
From our 10 plants we've had a total of 4 strawberries, two of which got eaten by animals (birds?).  I put netting over them a couple days ago.  This is the first year we've grown strawberries, and I just planted the plants a couple weeks ago, so I have no previous experience growing them.

I dont care either way.
