16  General / General Discussion / Re: Windmills on: January 12, 2013, 10:33:50 PM
After all the housing development in my view, the windmills simply seem inevitable.  Would anyone prefer more smog and acid rain? Maybe  a nice new nuclear plant?
The turbines are just another result of  population growth and  of our addiction to limitless electric energy.
'Couldn't help but notice cell towers stuck all along the landscape on a recent trip to Arkansas.
Natural ridgelines?  Maybe up in Alaska.

I don't need one now, but I wonder if a laundromat might not save some locals some travel time and gas.

Marvelous! I drive by the same trees day after day for decades, but today I noticed that I was unconsciously holding my breath as I tried to take in the scenery. Thanks for documenting how blessed we are. We often forget.

We have already indentured our lives and those of our children to the insatiable greed of corporate stockholders and of the predators that work for them.  Could it really be any worse letting the hyenas in government pick over our remains?

I have a pair I picked up not too long ago from next to a "FREE" sign I came across while walking around the village. They seem to be in pretty good shape, but I'm not likely to use them.  I'll  call you tomorrow around 11.
25  Fairfax Bloggers / Thoughts & Musings From Pastor Liz / Re: Do Dogs go to Heaven? on: April 22, 2012, 10:06:55 PM
I believe I surprised Ladybug in the woods once long ago while she was escorting  runners, and from then on she never did trust me. I could see she was protecting her large family, so afterwards I tried to give her wide berth. I admire dogs of all kinds, and try to befriend any that will reciprocate, and to respect those that won't.
I've outlived too many  of my own. 14 years go by quickly.  Anyway, although Ladybug didn't like me, I did like reading about her. Thank you.

And, I enjoy listening to the anecdotes about you on  A Prairie Home Companion, especially your Easter Sunday encounter with the State Policeman Garrison spoke of last week.

'Nam 67&68 ... just a passenger (military standby). It took me upcountry, stopping at every landing strip along the way....up, down, up, down... rarely flying  level. The seats were more like bicycle racks. And the temporary duty trips to Japan were torture...cold. long, and noisy. But, it beat walking.

Recent flooding has spread piles of fine river sand over stretches of the river bank adjacent to the the rec path.  Ask the town clerk.
