Hi - as I said in my email, it was on Saturday...I think it was probably late morning before the temperature fell.  When I saw the cat, it registered with me as it wasn't the usual cats from the neighborhood that I've seen.

I will keep an eye out in my backyard for him.  I do hope you find him!!  :-(

Current News & Events / Re: President Obama in Vermont March 30th

Chris, as I recall, there were only a couple of towns that threatened to arrest President Bush or VP Cheney, not the state as a whole.  However, Switzerland also considered arresting them ....but that's a different story.

And I agree...I would LOVE to watch Air Force One land at the airport.  So cool!  :-)

With comments like these in the article, it's not surprising there have been no presidential visits to the state of Vermont since 1995.

My question regarding the article you posted, Chris:  do other states expect reimbursement when a president visits?

Thank you, Henry.  This has been quite a traumatic experience for the entire family, but most especially for Mike.

Mike had both kidneys removed in an emergency surgery on Friday.  They had shut down and one of the massive cysts had ruptured.  His kidney was bleeding into itself and growing exponentially.  And taking half his blood along with them.  He was as sick as anyone could be and still be alive.  It is almost unbelievable how ill he truly was.

Henry, I posted a photo of Facebook.  If you could pull that to post here, I know Mike wouldn't mind.  In was, in fact, his request that I post the photo.  It shows just how much weight he has lost from the surgery and the beginning of dialysis. On Friday, just before surgery he weighed 240 pounds.  This afternoon when I took the photo, he weighed 215!

He is doing well, all things considered.  He has a few more hurdles to cross before they can consider sending him home.  He is now on dialysis 3 times a week until a donor kidney is found for him.

Thank you all for the support and prayers you sent to Mike.  It means so very much!

Hi Al, I'm Mike's sister.  Thanks for asking about him.  Mike's in a great deal of pain, but I haven't spoken to or seen him yet today.  I am heading to the hospital shortly.  I'll post an update tonight.

The commute to Burlington wasn't bad - the interstate was mostly clear - except for the shoulders which were ice and slush covered.  Route 104A was a bit slushy, but okay.  The worst part of the drive was my own driveway!!

My hope is the temperatures don't drop before I head home tonight.  I've had it with the icy commutes...

There is a second house right nearby that is vying to outdo the house you mentioned, MKR.  Both are pretty amazing!

Was that the tree carcass on Interstate 89 North?  It looked like a good sized tree.  Poor woman!

I don't think I would want to be behind a car with a tree on the roof...on the interstate.  You never know if the knew what they were doing when they tied it down...

Current News & Events / Re: The Snow Came As Expected
« on: November 23, 2011, 08:54:41 AM »
104A was a wreck.  Lots of built up snow/ice that was like driving on broken up blacktop.  It didn't help that I was 8th in line behind someone doing about 25 mph.  When I got to interstate, it seemed like it wasn't too bad.  Lots of people still driving 65-70.  However, a couple of times I felt the road change under the car and sure enough, my "you're sliding!" light came on.

BTW - I had to take my little dog, Jose, out at 12:45 this morning.  We already had about half an inch of snow then.

But...50's by the weekend!!

Current News & Events / Re: Interstate Problems Yesterday

Ugh....thankfully, I had an appointment in Montpelier yesterday so I avoided that little mess.  But, driving this communte every day thru all this construction, I've watched as people try to "thread the needle" by driving as far down the left lane as possible and then shove themselves into the right lane.  I was almost hit from BOTH sides the night of the 90 minute tie-up.  People have absolutely no patience and there were people driving down the right breakdown lane so as to try to gain a few car lengths.

There will be more and more of these tie-ups as people lose more patience...and drive even more stupidly...

Thanks, Cuzzin' Mike!  Actually, Jose is a Jack Russell Terrier/Chihuahua mix...which is the legalize for "cute as hell for a mini toy dog".  And his personality matches his cuteness.
