General Discussion / Re: Dogs Roaming River Road-Are they yours?
« on: July 18, 2012, 09:50:42 AM »
From what I've heard, the Constable was called more than once in the past - from the dogs destryoing others property ( perrenial beds and gardens) to Barking all night on others property, calls have been made.  Likeable dogs too.

Good points Travis.  We'll have to see what the accepted facts are.  The storyline goes that Zimmerman supposedly saw this yougn male acting suspiciously.  he cofnronted him and the male took off, he gave chase while on 911.

his domicile was not being broken into nor his family being threatened.  I suspect his role as Neighborhood watch Captian prompted him to act in the best interest of others in this case and he probably figured he was somewhat in the position of power with a loaded gun on him.  we'll see how in plays out.

that 911 call wasn't a lie - where they told Zimmerman NOT to pursue.  HE PUT himself in Danger - no one approached him and endagered his life.  The boy did not pull a gun out, let a lone a knife - any basic self-defense law states you're not guilty if you use the same force used against you.

actually, he still is being charged and will be tried for 2nd degree murder.

I'm surprised no one's brought up 2 points:

1) - What about the guy last year in VT who was sleeping and heard something in his house.  When he emerged from his room he found a dude in his livign room who'd broke in.  The intruder ran from the house and the guy popped off a few shots AT HIM while he retreated.  This was in the islands and if i recall correctly he wasn't charged... probably becuase the intruder wasn't stupid enough to come forward to press charges ( damn!) and no one was hurt.

2) in regards to the suggestion of introducing a castle or 'stand your ground' law-2 words come to mind there 'Trayvon Martin'.  So someone suspects mischief, goes off their property to investigate, is instructed to NOT pursue a suspected wrong-doer but does anyway, gets in a tussle where they feel their life is threatened, and they shoot an unarmed individual dead.

Some one here mentioned 'some sort of Castle or Stand your Ground law' - a well thought out, worded, and situationally covered law i WOULD back... not one that was so vague it allowed interpeters to possibly NOT bring charges when an obvious abuse of the law transpired.

Castle law would be more fitting in our case - as in terms of protecting one's family, not knowing what an intruder is capable of, and immersed in the heat and adrenaline of the moment - someone defending their famiy should not have to consider jailtime in doing so.

When i've seen schetchy vehicles nea rmy house, i'vr gone outside and made sur ethey saw me looking at them and taking down their license plates.  My theory is that when they see you noting their plate number and make of vehicle they'd:
a) be suddenly aware that their behavior has been interpreted as shady and leave immediately
b) be suddenly aware that someone is noting their make and model and be less apt to perpetrate anything illegal.  If they're really paranoid - they may even realize you're a neighbor of someone else they plan on robbing and thus not rob them either as you noted their info.

I am a mlae though - so mayeb you want to go outside with a large dog or Shotgun as well just in case.

Political Issues/Comments / Re: VSP Door Decals Improperly Modified
« on: February 08, 2012, 02:59:46 PM »
DId taxpayers perpetrate the prank?

OR was insufficient oversight at the facility where the decals were made result in the problem?

It sucks to lay blame - but if it costs us money and we didn't do it - perhaps the corrective costs should come out of the budget of the State of Vermont Department of Corrections budget ... ohh say their holiday party if you wanted to spread it out - or specifically out of the supervisor responsible for Quality Control of the inmates who create the decals.

I think these are good questions Henry.  And forme they rise more questions.  I can see an argument for handling certain matters internally, especially if we're talking minors - but then again if laws are broken - then where is that line drawn?  If my kid were in trouble, especially if they never get in trouble, i'd appreciate leniency.  But is that fair?
is it a question of others were ever in danger?  one could argue that a person under the influence is unstable and capable of harming anyone even if not violent or operating a car or machinery.

Lastly i'd say let's wait and see - perhaps these things take time to be released to the public - to ensure it's been invesitgated thoroughly and what IS released is the whole story....
