Which reminds me that I'll probably head out this weekend in search of the perfect tree. -;) We do prefer to cut our own, and like to support local businesses. Any signs up yet in town for cut your own trees?

Thanks,

Kevin

The engine on my Crafstman push mower died. I'm not handy with engines, so I bought a new one to replace it. Anyone who is handy with engines, is welcome to it. The mower is about 10 years old. Located in the village area.

E-mail to greenek2004@yahoo.com if interested.

We've been receiving calls from this number recently as well, almost on a daily basis. They called the other night, and I decided to answer the phone. They asked for my wife, by name. I identified myself as her husband, and that she was not available at the time - even though she was standing right next to me. I asked if I could relay a message to her. The person said no, she was calling for a political survey, and would call at a later date, and hung up.

I believe the location in Georgia is the fairly new self storage units on 104A, just off Route 7. When we passed by there last night around 6:15 or so, I noticed a number of fire apparatus there. I thought it was attributable to a fire nearby.

Trevor,

I think it is $2,000 per item. Don't be surprised to see a number of big ticket items suddenly available for $1999.99 this Saturday.

David,

I agree with you that large expenditures should be voted on by Australian ballot, and not on town meeting day.

I disagree with a town curfew. I think it comes down to parenting. As parents, we all have the right and responsibility to set boundaries for our children, as well as get to know exactly who our children are hanging out with. I would also include getting to know our childrens friends parents.

I remember growing up that I had to be home at a certain time, and that if I did not, I knew what the consequences were. My mom always seemed to be able to find out if I was somewhere or doing something that she didn't approve of.

Mike,

The Pats did win against Tenn. I think the score was 59 - 0 or something like that.

Until I read this string, I was under the impression that there was 1 entity, something like Fairfax Fire and Rescue.  When I see emergency vehicles drive by, I never really paid attention to the lettering on them. I assumed that depending on the call initiated to 911, a dispatcher determines the correct vehicle type(s) and the correct staffing to respond to an emergency.

Still learning new things after living here almost 2 years!

Henry,

Thanks for the update. As I mentioned, I was just curious. I understand that these things take time.

We have lived in Fairfax for about 18 months, and are curious if there is a general rule or process regarding a street being visible on search tools such as GPS or MapQuest. When people from out of town ask for directions, I advise them not to use their GPS, and I give them the directions via e-mail or verbally.

We own a place in the Fairfax Green deveiopment, on Old Academy Street. I understand that since the development is not complete with a final coat applied on the road, that it has not been turned over to the town yet. Would that be a reason?

I assume that even though our street doesn't exist on Mapquest that it is still a valid E911 location? I know that when we called to initiate phone service at our house, Verizon had to call the town hall, to verify that our number was a valid location. Verizon said that it pertained to E911.

Not a complaint, just curious. -;)

Thanks,

Kevin

Current News & Events / Re: The High School Prom
« on: May 23, 2009, 09:27:43 AM »
I didn't own a car in high school, but I was fortunate to borrow my older brother's white 1964 Oldsmobile Starfire convertible, with a 394 4 barrel. Probably not very fuel efficient, but I could fill up the tank for around $5.00! It had all the latest at the time including an AM radio, a rear speaker, and reverb! I did make sure that it was washed, waxed and vacuumed for the night. I do remember going inside my date's house before the prom, and carerfully pinning on the corsage, as her parents took pictures. We also drove back to my house, so that my Mom could also take pictures of the 2 of us. We did go out to dinner, but I don't remember if we went before or after the prom. I do remember that my date had a curfew, maybe midnight. We were back in time.

Naturally, Manny is denying that he took performance enhancing drugs. He says that what he took were prescribed to him by a physician. Interestingly, he is not challenging the suspension. Was it coincidence that his home run statistics improved significantly last year after he was traded to the Dodgers?

I feel that the Fairfax School Board did an excellent job this year coming up with the proposed budget. They also did an excellent job going into great detail at town meeting, clarifying each section of the budget. There wasn't too much discussion after their presentation, so the information seemed to be sufficient to make an informed decision on how to vote on Tuesday. I know that I had an idea of how I was going to vote before I went to town meeting, with very few questions. The information presented at town meeting answered all of my questions.
