General Discussion / Re: Fletcher Road Speed Limits
« on: July 26, 2012, 06:56:17 AM »
What evidence was used to justify lowering the speed limit? Is Fletcher Rd more dangerous than other 50mph roads in Fairfax. Is it more dangerous (more accidents/injuries) than other 40mph roads in town? I wish it was going to stay the same.

Interesting idea. I would certainly like to try one of his wood-fired pizzas. I hope he posts his number on this site soon!

As a Fletcher resident, I have no skin in this game, but how did the price go up by more than a million dollars in a year?

General Discussion / Re: Bounce house rental?
« on: June 12, 2012, 05:28:15 AM »
The best value in bounce house rental is SuperSounds DJ. If you pick up the bounce house from them in Underhill, you can have it for the weekend for around $125. We will usually pick it up on Friday afternoon and return it on Monday. The house is pretty easy to setup and will easily fit in a pickup truck, van, or even a minivan with all the seats down. They will also rent, deliver and remove the bounce house for a lot more money too.

Other places like Bounce Around Vermont will deliver and set it up too for $200+ too.

Thanks,
Todd

Here is a screenshot of a speed test I ran on my phone back on April 3, 2012 in Burlington.

I have been getting a 4G LTE signal in the area (Burlington, Fairfax, St. Albans, Essex, Williston) since March 26th or 27th and it has been great!

I am not sure why they are announcing the service beginning on May 17th, but I hope they are turning on even more towers next week. For example, I get coverage in South Burlington down to about Pizzeria Uno on Shelburne Rd, but can't get any coverage inside my office at GE Healthcare.

You will need a newer LTE-enabled Android phone (Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Motorola RAZR, HTC Rezound, Motorola Droid 4, Motorola Droid Bionic, HTC Thunderbolt, among others) to take advantage of the 4G LTE service. The new iPad also supports LTE, but not the iPhone 4S. The iPhone 5, which should arrive in the fall, will have an LTE antenna in it too.

Current News & Events / Re: Prom Dresses

I believe Camp Tah-Kum-Tuh will take them. They have a Prom each summer for their campers and a crew of people that fit the dresses to the girls who attend.

Political Issues/Comments / Re: rules of voting in the primary
« on: January 28, 2012, 05:20:47 PM »
Vermont is an open primary state meaning you can choose which ballot (Republican, Democrat, Progressive, etc.) you want to vote on the day of election.

It is not a system I particularly care for, but it is the system we have.

Thanks,
Todd

If they are 2 week loands, and the book is popular, I bet they are thinking of it as 1 year of loans.

This New York Times article can be found at:
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/25/business/for-libraries-and-publishers-an-e-book-tug-of-war.html?_r=1

HarperCollins is the one major publisher that has taken the step of changing the traditional arrangements with libraries.
Beginning last March, it stopped selling e-books to libraries for unlimited use, which it had been doing since 2001. Instead, it began licensing use of each e-book copy for a maximum of 26 loans. This affects only the most popular titles and has no practical effect on others. After the limit is reached, the library can repurchase access rights at a lower cost than the original price.

So at least one publisher (Harper Collins) is selling licences that come with 26 loans and subsequent licenses are sold at a reduced rate.

Apparently Verizon has changed their mind after huge amounts of consumer backlash since news of the fee leaked yesterday.

General Discussion / Re: recommend good Dentist?

My family is happy with Essex Family Dental. Their prices seem reasonable and they have convenient Saturday and evening hours. They are behind the (red) shopping center across from Lowes off of Susie Wilson Rd
