Political Issues/Comments / 4-year Terms for Statewide Elected Offices
« on: April 16, 2008, 03:22:10 PM »
All,

I read today that the Vermont Senate Government Operations Committee rejected by a 3-2 vote allowing the state senate to vote on whether or not to consider 4-year terms for state offices like Governor, Lt. Governor, etc...

http://www.timesargus.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080416/NEWS01/804160356/1002/NEWS01

I for one was dissappointed. I think it is kind of silly that all of these people have to run for reelection every other year, when it is so rare for an incumbent in this state to lose their position. I guess that makes me a "policy wonk" according to Senator White.

Anyone know what Gov. Dean and the Democrats' reasoning is for keeping the two year terms? Does anyone else care about this topic?

It seemed awfully quiet around here today. Now I guess we know why.

Does Verizon actually consider the phone calls they answered from you today to actually be Customer Service???

Current News & Events / Re: Tokyo, Japan Time Vs Fairfax, Vermont Time
« on: March 27, 2008, 04:22:52 PM »
I don't believe Japan observes Daylight Savings. Most of the countries in Asia do not. I actually have people that work for me in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and they do not observe daylight savings there either. Half the year they are 13 hours ahead and the rest of the year they are only 12 hours ahead.

One web site I found about Daylight Savings, said Japan used to observe daylight savings while the US occupied the country, but they did away with it in 1952.

You are definitely correct. Japan is 13 hours ahead of us.

Henry,

I beleive we are five hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT -5), but I don't believe they have returned from Daylight Savings time yet, so we are four hours behind England right now.

It is way too confusing for sure.

Apparently, this has been resolved and all coaches and staff will be compensated fort he trip. I am not sure the details of the arrangement have been made public yet.

This is a service that Cotco offers in other locations already. I think it is a great service for their members to be able to offer cheaper gas. I would certainly buy gas there if I was in the area.

Current News & Events / Re: Mojo's Restaurant
« on: January 20, 2008, 03:45:01 PM »
My family and I made the trek from Fletcher to Mojo's Restaurant on Saturday night for dinner. I would say it was just the kind of meal we were looking for.

We had an order of the Poutine, which I thought was very good. I don't spend enough time north of the border to consider myself an expert on poutine, but the poutine at Mojo's was exactly what I was expecting.

I had a Philly Cheese Steak that was truly excellent. The roll was nice an soft like it is supposed to be and the steak was coated in melted cheese. They serve their cheese steak with peppers and onions, which is how I like it. My wife had a gigantic piece of lasagna and my daughter had a basket of clam stips and fries which she enjoyed.

The service was very friendly. Overall, we enjoyed our meal. I think Mojo's is a great inexpensive place to bring the family for some comfort food.

We will go back!

Now that is something I have never seen before. Unusual, but I would guess it will get quite a bit of use.

I already know what I will have on my first visit. Poutine and a Philly Cheese Steak! Can't wait to bring the family in for a meal.

Good luck to the team at mojos.

Current News & Events / Who else was without power last night???
« on: January 08, 2008, 11:43:33 AM »
We were without power in Fletcher from about 9:30pm until 2:30am last night. My wife called CVPS and they had a message that there were outages in Milton, Westford, Fairfax, and Fletcher.

Good thing it was a pretty warm night or we would have been really chilly!

Anyone else impacted?

In a way that's great news. They have had a picture from their security cameras up in the store of a woman with a white Subaru that stole some fuel, so I wonder if that is who was caught. I will ask the next time I am at the store.

It is sad to think that this person is probably not someone who would normally resort to stealing, but may have been struggling to pay for fuel to heat her home.

Thanks for the update. I am glad it was nothing major.

Sounds like FXFD had a fairly quiet Christmas Day and we can all be thankful for that.

It looked like it may not have been a very merry Christmas for a family on Fairfax Road in (Binghamville) Fletcher. I noticed a couple of Fairfax FD Trucks in the driveway this afternoon.

Anyone know what happened?

Thanks and Merry Christmas.

Todd
