Upcoming Events / Shamrock Weekend in Fairfax
« on: March 13, 2019, 10:00:07 PM »
You'll find specials, discounts, and giveaways just for fun this weekend (March 16 &17) at several Fairfax businesses. Stop in for green goodies and enter drawings at Steeple Market, Fairfax Pharmacy, Eastman's Bakery, J&L Hardware, Erica's Diner, and Minor's Country Store.  Even the Library has surprises. They are all helping the non-profit Friends of the Fairfax Community Center, Inc. raise awareness of our town's goal of turning the Baptist building on Main Street into a multi-use Community Center. Donations welcome.

Thank you, Barbara, for arranging much-deserved recognition of Henry. And, of course, for all your work in our behalf.

The kids are alright, and that Sara is super.  Nice to see good news. Thanks for sharing.

General Discussion / Re: Need Your Input on Cable TV
« on: January 28, 2016, 10:11:13 PM »
I've had DISH for many years and no complaints from me except I wind up paying for more channels than I'll ever watch just to get Turner Classic Movies. They relocated my dish to receive HD and offered me a fancy system that records up to 4 programs at once, but I declined that and when I pointed out my 20 year old Magnavox tube TV can't use HD, they don't charge me for it.  Mike's digital system (ROKU with Over The Air Antenna) makes a lot of sense and is much cheaper, but if you're at all cyber-challenged or cyber-lazy and are looking for a good satellite service, I recommend DISH.

General Discussion / Free clothes dryer

New appliances arriving this afternoon. Old dryer works fine, but  Sears will haul it away if you don't want it. We're next to Ross's Auto on Main Street.  If interested call 849-2229...pretty soon.

How come "Nay" on GMO labelling?

My wife and I dined there recently and were impressed with the improved service. The menu is a little pricier than it used to be, but then most things are these days and the quality is quite good.

He had the tidiest vegetable gardens, neatest woodpiles, and best-kept yard in town...all the while creating and maintaining Fairfax's Community Hiking Path. He'll be missed by many for a long time.

I am under the impression the Fairfax Dam's power was to be used for an electric trolley to St Albans, but that project  fell through and the power was shunted off to Massachusetts, much the way Georgia Mtn wind power heads to BED. It's a private deal following the money.

Thank you for sharing your treasures.

South on 128 out of Westford village I spotted a sign at a farm advertising dry wood. Stopped there yesterday and am expecting delivery today.
Tony says the logs were cut  last spring, then split and stacked last fall and they're burning it.  I'll try to get a phone number for you if the load looks good.

Political Issues/Comments / Re: are you a maker or a taker??
« on: January 31, 2013, 09:10:43 PM »
That's an absurdly reductive open-ended question useful only in creating grossly inaccurate divisions in the moment. Unless the taking or the making are much more  clearly defined, we are each and everyone of us BOTH!    Most of us better off than others got that way by taking  for what we make.  Please note how many so-called "makers" take hefty profits by avoiding taxes and by paying low wages or (more profitable yet) by taking jobs away and sending them overseas, in the process "making" hordes of so-called "takers". Of course, life isn't fair. But it isn't black OR white, either.
