Among the advantages of being retired and having a lower income is the fact that each year the State of Vermont sends a check to the Town of Fairfax which reduces my Property Taxes.  Back when this first started, the State used to mail the check to the property owner, however that money did not always make it into the Town Treasury as the person spent it on something else.  The present method involves the Town getting the check from the State and reducing the property owner's tax bill.
