MONTPELIER, Vt. -- Over the weekend, technicians reported some positive developments in the search for tritium at Vermont Yankee.

Groundwater monitoring wells that had seen extremely high tritium levels -- which was contaminating the soil a month ago -- are now down sharply.

The highest reading has fallen almost 90 percent.

Yankee will shut down next month for scheduled refueling, which means the tritium leaks will stop.

They've identified one leak, and want to know about any others before the closure.

A plant spokesman said crews are now devising remediation plans for that shutdown.

I hadn't realized that there was more than one leak.
