Loud noises are expected to spark a loud debate in Milton tonight.

The Selectboard is considering a proposal for a noise ordinance in the town that some residents are finding hard to hear.

If passed, the ordinance would prohibit a number of things, from amplifiers in cars to barking dogs to the playing of musical instruments without a neighbor's consent.

Violators of the ordinance could face up to $500 fines.

Supporters say the ordinance would improve quality of life, but opponents say it goes to far.

The Selectboard will discuss the proposal at its meeting tonight at 6:00 at the Milton Town Offices.
