Picture of the Day

Paving on Rt. 128.

FLETCHER ALLEN
For the third time in my life, I was having an operation Tuesday. Well, maybe "procedure" is more like it. In 2007, I had my knee operated on in the old Fanny Allen unit. This past January, my fistula was put in in the normal surgery unit. Wednesday, I was in the cardiovascular unit in the old McClure building.
Back when I was in 2nd grade, Dad had a spinal fusion done. Back in those days he was laid up in a hospital bed for weeks. Nowadays, they have you up and walking the next day. When Dad was in the hospital, we spent A LOT of time there. Margie and I knew that place like the back of our hand. Where the lobby was, the gift shop, the cafeteria. If I think hard enough, I can still remember what the place smelled like.
So now, we had to go from the third floor registry to the first floor of the McClure unit. NO idea where we were.
For the knee and the fistula, I was OUT. This time I was kinda dozy. Could hear talking, and at one point, I could feel a burning sensation in my arm, and I SAID SO. "UH, burning!". The nurse said to hang on and she would increase the pain medication.
It was suddenly over and I was awake in the operating room.
They don't want me to do any heavy lifting including a gallon of milk, so I will take Wednesday off and lay low to let the arm heal.
Oh, yeah. The doctor told Margie that there was a narrowing of the vein in one area, and did do the balloon thingy. That may have been when I felt the burning sensation in my arm.
Thanks to everyone who was wishing me well.
