First day of spring

The first day of spring this year (2008) is March 20. The equinox will be at 5:48 GMT.   I never know how many hours ahead we are of GMT.

In general, the four seasons correspond to the relative position of the Sun to the earth. Meteorological determination of Spring is calculated when the Sun passes through the equatorial plane. When going from Winter to Spring, the Sun is moving North, and as soon as the Sun crosses the equator, we call it Spring.

I should probably go out and take a picture of Spring here right now

I told my wife that a husband is like a fine wine; he gets better with age. The next day, she locked me in the cellar.

Henry,

I beleive we are five hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT -5), but I don't believe they have returned from Daylight Savings time yet, so we are four hours behind England right now.

It is way too confusing for sure.

According to WPTZ, the Vernal Equinox was at 1:48 a.m. EDT today 3/20/08.  So it's already Spring here in Vermont.  But we're use to having snow in the Springtime, aren't we?
