911 and local phones are not working at this time. If you have an emergency, and can't get through to 911, call Steve B standing by at the fire station 309-0891. Steve will dispatch the fire department.

I am curious about Ned's comment "does not automatically mean BFA will sell its buses". I don't understand how Ned can sell buses that the people of Fairfax bought. If he decides to go with a contractor, our buses and bus garage should not be part of the formula. The contractor should have to provide the buses and a place to store them to give an honest price. The person from the state at the meeting about the buses said the contractor would rent our garage for the going rate. Only an idiot would buy that, they will charge us in the contract whatever we charge them for rent....free building. If we contract the busing, the buses should go back to the town. We can decide to keep or sell, our choice. If we sell, the money goes to the town...not the SU. It bothers me having administrators deciding an issue that really affects this town when none of them live here.

I keep thinking about this issue...who owns the buses? With the exception of the last school budget, the buses have always been a separate vote. Does the school administration have the right to sell our buses, or should they go back to the town that actually paid for them when they start contracting busing? The person from the state at the school board meeting said the company that gets the contract would rent our garage at fair market value. This makes no sense to me. If they are renting our garage they will just include the cost of the rent in our contract...so they rent it for free.

Dave,
We use the money to purchase things that need to be bought or replaced that are not in our budget. One thing we want to do is build a shed that will free up room in the station. We bought a used mower this year, we bought the rescue truck a few years back. We bought new patches for uniforms that we haven't had the money to buy yet. I hope we can get uniforms for our members next year, we'll have to wait and see what breaks. Tom Snyder

The guy from the state that tried to explain what's going on made the comment that they would rent at the going rate(whatever that means)...or something like that. I'm against anyone but the town of Fairfax using that garage and parking area.

Ridgerunner,
I stopped at the SU Monday morning and discussed the buses. I was told they would be kept in the same place as our buses, just like the rest of the SU. I don't think this discusion is premature....if the SU is even considering cost for comparison, storage is an issue. I really don't care what is good for the SU, I only care what is good for Fairfax. I would like to know though...if people knew we were just on a one year waiver then would have to give up our buses, why did we have a new bus in the school budget?

Karen brought up a good point that was passed over quickly. We own the bus garage...if the SU decides to get rid of our buses, they should have to find another place to keep and maintain the contractor's buses. I don't want to see a private company use our garage to run their business at our expense. The really frustrating thing about this issue is that most of the people making this decision don't live in this town, they don't seem to care what we really want.

How many supervisory unions are there in VT? What is the possibility of combining some of them?

Josh...my point is not what is in a contract, it's that a contract is a contract.
Tom...I believe kids do better in school if they spend more time with books, and less time playing games on their Ipads.

It bothers me when people don't live up to their contracts. We have a contract with the teachers that I believe we should uphold. If we feel things need to be changed, negotiations on the next contract is where that should happen. I've been watching kids in and out of the school, and I have a real problem with the whole Ipad issue. My opinion is that the Ipad is toy for most of the kids, and a babysitter for teachers that want quiet time. How much money have we spent buying Ipads and laptop since the beginning of that program?
I wasn't given the option to "renegotiate" my contract after I enlisted.

How much money has the school spent on Ipads and laptops from the start of that program to the present?

Does anyone know how many miles of road the crew has to take care of?

The road crew does a fantastic job keeping our roads clear, it amazes me that this doesn't happen more often. You don't realize how much our roads turn, dip, drop off, and climb until you are the first vehicle on them before they are plowed.

I believe anything commercial would require bringing the building up to state code....way too expensive.
