WINTER BACK IN THE DAY
Pictures from Mom's Photo Album

The first snowmobile in Fairfax. And I am having a COMPLETE SENIOR MOMENT!! I cannot remember the name of the person who was involved with building this vehicle. He used to own the garage where Cliff Ross is now. Reggie Broe used to talk about him all the time. Whenever you talk about the Town Character, this was the guy. But for the life of me, I can not remember the name.

The road to Smugglers Notch

South Street(now Main Street) in winter. The old St. Luke's Church. The SOCONY sign was for Rol Southard's Garage, located where Boutin's place is now. SOCONY stood for Standard Oil Compnay Of New York.

If I remember right, Albert Rich told me that they steered the machine with ropes and that they sometimes went through a few fences.

Mike, the "Road to Smuggler's Notch" photo is really cool.  Is that rte 104?  15? 108?  Just curious.

The first photo of the snowmobile was taken up by where the museum is now. The corner of the building you see was Marty Hicks' old place that eventually became the fire station.
