Current News & Events / Re: Bank Robbery This Morning In St. Albans
« on: October 05, 2009, 12:06:33 PM »
I was in St. Albans at 11:15 the state troopers were interviewing a bank teller outside they had the entrance blocked along with the street that goes up alongside  the bank.  When I went back through at 12:30 they were still there.  Glad to hear no one was hurt.
I had to go to Milton to make my deposit.

I copied this from the article in the Free press, if Georgia designiates one school, there is an appeal process for the parent to follow.
Under Act 44, which passed in the state legislature last spring, elementary school districts without designated public high schools can now choose one for their students. Bellows Free Academy-Fairfax (BFA) is a possibility for Georgia.

Even if a single high school is designated, Georgia parents would have the option of appealing to the school board for permission to send their children elsewhere, under Act 44.

However, the school district would only be obligated to pay the amount of tuition paid at the designated school, or the statewide average tuition, whichever is lower. Parents would be obligated to pick up any tuition difference.

In speaking to the Georgia towns people, I find that the majority of them of quite upset with this.  At least those with children.  They like having the flexibility of choosing where their child goes. If they work in the Burlington/Essex area that sometimes influences their decision on Essex or So. Burlington schools.  I find that a good deal of them like the idea of BFA St. Albans as all the students coming there are from different towns therefore are in the same boat.
When I lived in Georgia, I lived there because of school choice and to take that away is not right.   I think the child should be matched with the school, not all children thrive based on what town you happen to live in.  I sent mine to 3 differnet high schools based on their personality types. I had one that went to Fairfax and loved it, the others hated it and went elsewhere.
If a town can't afford to build and maintain a high school then students and their parents should have a choice of where it go, it it involves a ceiling on the spending amount then so be it.
I know of a few parents in the past that sent their children to private schools and that was quite expensive and unfair for the town.

Current News & Events / Another "break-in" off Michelle Rd.
« on: September 29, 2009, 11:16:53 AM »
Our gate at the end of Michelle Rd., was opened this morning. Upon checking out why we noticed that the chain had been cut,  this was a logging chain and was cut with bolt cutters.  Still trying to determine what was taken.  Anyone with information or that may have seen any vehicles late yesterday or into the evening. Please contact the Vermont state police or contact us and we'll take from there.

On lower Lake St. in St. Albans (across the Beverage mart/liquor store) they are a full service Shell station and on Thursdays have 5 cents off per gallon. I'm sure if you wanted the oil checked they'd do it.

Why pay more??

Fantastic news about the arrests.....looking at the lady arrested I wouldn't think she would be capable of this????  Looks like a bank teller or store employee, I guess you just never know.

Well Henry I was hoping it would be 80 here but I guess that won't happen.  It's still only 72 in Georgia and I would imagine that Fairfax is approximately the same.
Still a good fall day and at least it's not raining:)

I just know that when I'm on medicare, if I am fortunate to live that long, I don't want anyone but my family or myself making my healthcare decisions.  I have a healthcare directive and certainly don't want it interpreted that I choose to die!.  Health care decision are best made by yourself and a close relative if you cannot speak for yourself, not some bureaucrat dictating what I can or cannot have or if I'm worth saving.

Current News & Events / Re: Flu Shot (s) - This Will Confuse People
« on: September 18, 2009, 05:56:10 AM »
I no longer get flu shots as the last three times 2005, 2006 & 2007 I ended up with the flu and in 2007 it turned to pneumonia. I dont' think I've even been so ill, I feel a whole lot better without it.  The doctor didn't understand why it would have cause it but let's face it some people do get gravely ill with it and I must be one of them. Just not worth the trouble.

General Discussion / Re: Guess The Guy Had A Real Bug Against Smokers
« on: September 17, 2009, 03:13:28 PM »
I think if this person was outside smoking then leave him be, if he is bothering you go the other way.

I have never smoked and have asthma so my husband smokes either in the basement, garage or outside.  I think we are quite fortunate to live in Vermont where smoking is not allowed indoors if you have a business.  When the laws in Vermont were enacted allot of the bar owners balked and said they would have to go out of business.  I still see many of them are still open.   I for one don't miss going into a restaurant, dance hall, store, hospital and breath in someone else's bad habit.  I've  had to leave these places many times because I'd have an asthma attack because someone just couldn't go without a cigarette while they were eating or shopping.
Now other states and some places in Quebec are starting to follow suite.  I've heard all the arguments for it... it's our right..., we're being discriminated against, if I want to have a cigarette with my meal I should be allowed..on and on.  I say stop polluting the air I breath.
Thank-you Vermont for standing up for NON-SMOKERS, second hand smoke kills!

We certainly are fortunate to have such a good crew.

Current News & Events / Re: Missing Cambridge Child Found Safe
« on: September 16, 2009, 12:18:34 PM »
I remember being lost deep in the woods with my brother, we were probably 10-12.  My brother climbed the tallest tree he could find so we could get oriented and try to find our way back.  We were lost all of an afternoon and being  farm kids my parents never thought to look for us as we always wondered off and played.   It's amazing how you can go in circles over and over. Long story short we found a fence line and followed it to the end.   I now carry a compass with me when I go into the woods sure helps get your bearings.
