They'll take just about any format as an upload, they then automatically transcode it to the format they use (Flash). I've uploaded MPEG 1, MPEG 2, and Quicktime, among others, without problems. Joe Deanne Morin has a video she took of The Steeple Market Fire that I am going to try and pick up a copy of today. Would be nice if it could be uploaded to YouTube - What format is used??

In the interest of full disclosure, I work with Ann at VPT. All of us broadcasters have a vested interest in everyone getting or keeping their TV - not just VPT, but all the channels if possible.

Canada will not be converting to full digital TV until 2011. CBC english and french both have low power digital channels on air in Montreal. There are very hard to pick up down here because they are not on Mount Royal and the power of the transmitters is very low. Currently in Quebec CTV has no digital TV (they do in Toronto, of course). CBC, along with CTV are expected to have full power digital stations in Montreal sometime on the next two years. At that point we should be able to get those stations down here in Fairfax (if you have a good channel 6 and 12 signal already). One important note, if you want to watch Canadian analog TV make sure you get a converter box that has "analog pass through." This will allow you to watch the analog signal on your TV when the digital box is turned off. ..Hockey Night in Canada is still 'must see TV' in our house! Regards, Joe What about Canadian channels? Are any of those digital? And can you get any of them with a digital antenna?

According to some folks with whom I've spoken, Fairpoint realized they will not be able to build out DSL fast enough to meet the requirements of the Verizon sale agreement / Gov. Douglas' e-state initiative. They've decided to go with a wireless solution some areas. I'm not sure if that's interim until DSL gets fully built out or permanent.
This tower could very well be the start of that wireless system.
Now, how is that signal gonna make it all the way over to Buck Hollow??? : )

>> Don't know where Joe did get the web site address:
I did get that link from the Fairpoint press release in the VTA website... here's that link:
http://www.telecomvt.org/press/fairpoint-expansion-pr.pdf
I did a "whois" for that domain name and it came up being owned by a broadband consultant out of Baltimore.
More importantly, all I gave them was my name, address and phone number, all info that, for me at least, is available in the public domain. And that's the lesson to be learned here, if a website asks for any info that you don't want to share... don't share it.

The folks at Fairpoint have set up a web site to track the demand for broadband in areas that are under served. The assumption is they will base their build out on demand? http://www.iwantmybroadbandfromfairpoint.com/I'm already signed up, and I told all of my neighbors. Regards, Joe

Wow, 3 grand is a deal ! Comcast wanted 73K and change to go 3 miles to our house. On the bright side, Global Net (the wireless internet guys out of Essex) are supposed to be adding a transmitter by the end of August up on Georgia Mtn. Their speeds are not as fast as cable, but close...and it beats the pants off dial up (a co worker of mine has their service and is quite happy).
Not to turn this in to a thread about broadband access - oh why not - we use Hughes Net right now and are extremely unhappy with the service. Even for casual web surfing there are times of the day when dial up service is better.
OK, one more tidbit... the folks at Vermont Telcom authority, these are the "e-state" people, told me that by the end of September, Fairpoint will announce which telephone exchanges in VT will be built out to 100% DSL penetration.
Here's hoping Fairfax is on the list !

I saw a newspaper article a few months ago that Comcast was to expand their coverage in many VT communities including Fairfax. Does anyone happen to know in what parts of Fairfax Comcast will expand?
