Mrs. Florence A. Magnan, age 88, a lifelong resident of Fairfax, died Thursday evening, March 10, 2005, at her home with her loving family at her bedside. She was born in Fairfax, March 7, 1917 daughter of the late Edward and Clara (Drinkwine) Barkyoumb. Florence and her husband, Euclide, operated a dairy farm in Fairfax for many years. Florence’ s whole life was focused on her husband, children and grandchildren. She was the matriarch of the family, organizing many huge family gatherings.

Florence was a home maker, had her own seat number 127, at the St. Albans Auction Gallery and was very well known by the auctioneers, for the antiques she collected and sold. Her birds were always well fed, her flower gardens well tended and her quilts all hand stitched. After her husband, Euclide, died her faithful companions were her pets “Molly” and “Boy”.

Florence is survived by her eight children and their spouses Barbara and Lawrence Young, Donna and Roger Meunier, James Magnan all of Fairfax, Mary and George Boissoneault, John and Elaine Magnan, of St. Albans, Katherine and William Considine of Georgia, Gerald and Debra Magnan of Chateguay, N.Y., Terrance and Joanne Magnan of Sheldon, 23 grandsons, 11 granddaughters, 11 great-grandsons, 13 great-granddaughters. Her babies were the delight of her life. She also leaves 2 brothers and their wives Gordon and Ramona Barkyoumb of Hopkinton, Mass., Reginald and Joyce Barkyoumb of Fairfax, a sister Lena Lavendure of Boynton Beach, Fla., brothers and sisters-in-law Henry and Loretta Magnan, Laurentia Magnan, Gertrude Sweeny, Monica Lemnah and Loretta (Mrs. Lee) Magnan, numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband of over 55 years, Euclide, on June 4, 1994, also by her granddaughter Maria Boissoneault, sisters Helen Gaboury, Eva Kosla, brothers Edward, Walter and William Barkyoumb.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11:00 A. M. in Holy Angels Church, St. Albans. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St. from 5 to 9 P.M. Sunday. Interment will be this spring in the Magnan family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Maria Boissoneault Scholarship Fund in care of Donna Meunier, 2274 Main St., Fairfax, Vt. 05454, or the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, S.t Albans, Vt. 05478.
