Current News & Events / Re: Big Doings On Buck Hollow Road Tomorrow
« on: August 24, 2010, 04:38:45 PM »
I hate to say it but your right.  It brings down the overall image of the town.  A party is nice but it looks like it went to far when two vehicles (there are two diffrent tread patterns)  more importantly the operators decide to deface the roadway.  I would expect it from a group of youths.  Hopefully, the rubber marks wear away.

Current News & Events / I thought i seen it all Fairfax Falls Bridge
« on: August 16, 2010, 04:04:15 PM »
While waiting to cross over the bridge today on the Rt 104 side i was passed by an impatient motorist.  What he didn't see was the large SUV already half way through the bridge.  Causing him to back up as the bridge was not wide enough for the two vehicles.  Does anyone know if there was ever a yield right of way sign posted on the river rd side of the bridge.  The bridge is wide enough to support two small cars at the same time but anything bigger watch your mirrors.

The way i see it a good Samaritan does not flee the area.  An arrest warrant might be issued because they need to talk to the individual on how they came into possession of the item.

Current News & Events / Re: Four wheelers on Fletcher Rd
« on: August 06, 2010, 03:19:52 PM »
You are correct it is illegal for four wheelers to be on the roadway in Fairfax.  There are towns that have local ordinances that allow four wheelers on the roadway.  This covers farmers that need to use the roadway to get from field to field as well.  If there was an ordinance like many towns it would require the vehicle to be register insured and the owner identity to be released to the town.  Last i knew the sheriff's office was in town for only 40hrs per week and at request of the select board and town for the burglary spree in town.  Now it sounds that the concern is to switch to nights in fairfax.  I believe that this issue has been brought up before and with the sheriff's office only covering 40 hrs the town then defaults to the Vermont state police for coverage.  If i had to guess i bet both Dept's have a very strict policy with what can be done in regards to four wheelers.

I have to say i find the sign rough road at the intersection of Ramsey and 128 to be pretty amusing.  This is the smoothest i remember 128 being and it is a dirt road.

I agree that an ordinance could help the issue.  Either civil or criminal.  Both to generate revenue and to deter the situations.  From my as i was taught by my father there were two ways to learn.  Money and pain is what he used to say.  But why are we not talking to the land owners.  John Zeno owns the land on river road and has it opened to fishing, and i believe one of the partys own the land on shepardson hollow rd at the culvert.  Why not start with the land owner.  If they do not want to the post their land for trespassing an ordinance would not help the situation.

Judi,

I am unsure if you mean the pulloff on river rd where fishing does take place.  As far as i know there is nothing there stating it is private property and it is maintained by the town.  It this is to be deemed private then there needs to be signs a barricades put up.  You cannot enforce private property if it is not posted.

Henry was lucky on this one.  My fiance went to look for a a/c unit for her parents and was informed that there weren't any in the state.  That was around 1700 hrs.

Now if Vtrans would maintainl the culverts they pulled out on Rt 128.  One is deep enough that is would swallow my truck a real strut buster.  At least the culvert replacement means paving will be in the future.

Current News & Events / Re: Speed Limit Change On Fletcher Road
« on: April 21, 2010, 06:06:50 PM »
I'm guessing the town roadway foreman would be the one to ask about the signs considering fletcher rd in a town highway.  I'm not seeing how this is a speed trap when there are so many signs informing the operator of the speedlimit.  Not sure about the rest of you but my vehicle is equipped with brakes.

If revenue is generated from traffic stops on Fletcher rd it is recycled back into the town.  I'm almost certain i saw a notice hanging on minors country store bulletin board not to long ago reflecting the speed limit change.

I can not remember seeing this brought up in the select board minutes or discussion by the towns people.

Signs are up in both direction at this time heading roughly north on fletcher rd towards main street there is a 40 mph advisory sign near wheezys way then a posted 40 sign.   A 30 advisory sign and then a posted 30 sign.  The area is well marked and i cannot as a defense you didn't see a speed limit sign.
From the other direction there is one posted at the intersection of river rd and another 30 sign posted just after the crest of the hill near boisuanault rd.

Today the Sheriff's dept was in the area making contact with multiple operators.

The outcome was in the newspaper but haven't seen it in on the news.  It seems that there are more charges to come.  Possibly on victim and offender.
