Essex - Janet Marie (Barkyoumb) Yandow, 81, passed away at the McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester on March 29, 2023, surrounded by her family after experiencing many years of health issues. She was born on July 11, 1941, daughter of the late Kenneth and Jean (Brodeur) Barkyoumb. Janet graduated from BFA Fairfax, Class of 1960. She married Roger Yandow in 1964. Janet worked at the Mary Fletcher Hospital for a few years then became a homemaker and managed the family rental property.
Janet and Roger spent lots of time with family going on snowmobile outings when their children were young and camping trips and other outings in the summer. They were also involved in a bowling league for several years where they made many friends. Later in life, Janet also spent time swimming at the local gym with a group of women who would become dear friends and who would celebrate their birthdays together. Anyone who met Janet for the first time would quickly learn she was the oldest of ten children. She was an easygoing, kind and sweet person who really took lots of joy in spending time with all of her family. At an early age, Janet began what would be a lifetime of caring for others. She often would babysit her siblings while her mom was busy with other things. Later in life, she cared for elderly neighbors and many elderly family members who needed help. Janet also helped her church by being part of a group to provide dishes for funeral luncheons and she also volunteered her time to collect for the Bishop’s fund. Janet was blessed with four grandchildren and cared for them when they were very young. She formed a special, long-lasting bond with Colby, Ryan, Travis and Hanna. They were the joy of her life and she cherished every moment with them.
Janet is survived by her loving husband Roger, daughter Lisa McEvoy and husband Joel of Essex, son David Yandow and Mary Lynn Kemp of Sheldon, grandchildren Ryan McEvoy, Hanna McEvoy, Colby Yandow and Travis Yandow. Her siblings, Betty Severance of Sheldon , Linda Mathieu and husband Richard of Westford, brother Ken Barkyoumb, Jr. of Bolton, Debbie Irish and husband Mark of Fairfax, Susan Corse and husband Doug of Fairfax. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Ray and Elaine Yandow of South Hero and Bernard Yandow of Essex. A special Aunt and Uncle Alice and Buzz Collins, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Janet was also predeceased by brother, Frank Barkyoumb; sister Brenda Barkyoumb; sister Sandra Cutting; sister Gloria Ledoux; brother-in-law Ron Cutting; brother-in-law Al Ledoux; brother-in-law John Severance; sister-in-law Carol Barkyoumb; nephew Jim Cutting; nephew Brian Barkyoumb. Parents-in-law Leon and Loretta Yandow; brother-in-law George Yandow; sister-in-law Pauline Baker; sister-in-law Sylvia Yandow. The family wishes to thank the staff at McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester, VT for providing exceptional care and support for Janet in her final days.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Corbin & Palmer Funeral Home - Essex. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Pius X in Essex on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Charles Ranges officiating. Interment will be immediately following the mass at Holy Family cemetery, Lincoln Street, Essex.

George A. Boissoneault passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Monday evening, February 20th , 2023, following a brief illness, at the age of 84. He was born in Addison, on May 6, 1938, son of Lucien and Simone Boissoneault. His spirit and love will live on in our hearts and memories as a father, son, brother, grandfather and friend.
George was one of six children, ranking at number three. He leaves his older sister, Pauline (husband Steve) Ratte, and younger brothers, Rene (wife Priscilla) and Giles (wife Carol).
He was predeceased by his daughter Maria, his wife Mary, brothers Maurice and Bernard, his parents, and many friends and loved ones.
George’s childhood began growing up with his family in Addison, Vermont. They soon relocated to Fairfax after purchasing a farm in the village. While working the farm together, George’s nature led him to tend to the land. He was a strong and hardworking young man, always ready to work in the dirt. Being the great hunter and fisherman of the family, he enjoyed many days hunting and fishing in the brooks and woods around the village of Fairfax. During the summer days, George loved exploring the woods with friends and family, often carving their initials into beech trees. Some of those spots can still be seen today.
After graduating highschool, George spent time working both at the railroad and in construction. In 1959, he enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Alaska. Upon completing his service, he returned home to Fairfax, purchased the family farm and began his lifelong career in the dairy and agricultural industry.
On August 17, 1963, he married Mary J. Magnan and together embarked on their journey of raising a family of six, beginning in Fairfax and later moving to Saint Albans Bay in 1971. Throughout their years, George and Mary worked to expand their farm while passing along the legacy to their children.
In the early 1990s, George added sugar maker to his list of many trades. His first sugar bush was located at the Riverbend farm in Fairfax and later he pursued a partnership in a sugaring operation in Northern Maine.
George was a master storyteller with a grin that lit up the room. He had a strong work ethic and was always looking for a deal, big or small. Most days began with a morning coffee followed by his daily ride around the horn. George was a conversationalist who loved to reminisce with anyone about the good ole days. He was generous, friendly and kind, always helping those when he could. An outdoorsman, with a love of nature, he embraced the solitude and peace it provided. Many adventures, laughs and fond memories were enjoyed at his camp in the North Maine Woods, his home away from home.
Most summer nights you would find him rocking on the porch, sharing a glass of wine or sitting alone while keeping watch of the world around him. During his later years, George most enjoyed time spent with family and friends. In the winter months, he looked forward to soaking in the sunshine and exploring the New Mexico countryside.
George is survived by his five children, daughters Cheryl Lupien (Mark Stanley), Michele and her husband, Michael Bruso, all of Fairfax, sons Jeff and his wife, Tammy Boissoneault of St. Albans Bay, Jason Boissoneault and Justine Kinerson, of Fairfax, Joshua and his wife, Christina, of St. Albans Bay; his pride and joy, eleven grandchildren Erica (Tyler), Jordan (Travis) and Jacob (Mattie) Lupien, Amelia (Tim) Rebeor, Ben and Carl Bruso, Cody (Kate) and Myriah (Christian) Boissoneault, Mary-Kate, Kelli and Colt Boissoneault.
Family and friends may call at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans from 4 to 7 p.m. on THURSDAY, March 2nd, 2023.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated SATURDAY March 4th at 11 am at the Church of the Nativity, 65 Canada Street, Swanton. Interment will be later in the Boissoneault family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Maria Boissoneault Memorial Fund, in care of Toby Ducolon and Jeff Boissoneault, 80 Bella Maquam Lane, Swanton, Vermont 05488 or plant a tree in George's memory, available on the Heald Funeral Home website.

Fairfax - James Frederick Anderson (Jim, Jimmy, Red), 74, died at home February 14, 2023 with his family at his side. He was born in Jeffersonville on June 8, 1948.
Jim is survived by Mary his wife of 56 years, daughter Tina Anderson Zettel and her husband Peter, son Jeremy and his wife Cindy, granddaughter Faith (the apple of Jim’s eye), sisters Judith, Kathleen and her husband Michael Jauregui, brother Robert and his partner Kathy LeMay, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Eastman and Pat Root, Sharon and John Palmer, Bruce and Linda Root, and Beverly LaPlante, many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews and cousins.
Jim was predeceased by his father and mother Robert and Elizabeth (Giddings) Anderson and his treasured mother-in-law Dorothy Root.
Jim graduated from Bellows Free Academy Fairfax and continued his education eventually becoming an HVAC technician. Along this journey Jim wore several hats, including farmer, steel tier, and cement finisher extraordinaire.
Jim was a member of the Masons, Franklin Lodge No. 4, Mt. Sinai Shriners, Northern Vermont Shrine Club Motor Corps, Scottish Rite, Sword of Bunker Hill and ROJ. Jim loved participating in parades as a representative of the Shriners Motor Corps and receiving hi-fives and smiles from the children standing on the sidelines. Jim’s goal was to participate in as many parades as possible to raise funds and awareness for Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Those of you who visited Jim’s home might remember one of his trademark sayings “would you look at the time”. This meant that you could visit as long as you liked, but he was going to bed! Another was “good and you?” when asked how he was doing.
The family would like to thank Donald Miller, MD and Franklin County Home Health/Hospice nurses Heather, Linda and Carol for their tireless and compassionate care.

Fletcher, VT - Eva Louise (Hooper) Lancaster, age 91 – This is the story of a lovely lady. A lady who was known for her incredible smile and her sweet demeanor. The most kind-hearted person that you would ever meet. This is mom’s “dash”.
Eva was born in Fletcher, Vermont on July 1, 1931, on the hottest day of the year, and passed away on January 31, 2023 as she was being lovingly held by her daughter, Laura, her son-in-law, Mark and grandson, “Alex”ander Weber.
Eva was the first child of Jesse and Mona (Spaulding) Hooper. Her brother, Roy Hooper was born in 1933 and lived in Alaska upon his death on July 7, 2022.
Eva began her education in the one room schoolhouse around the corner from her home in Fletcher Center, and graduated from Bellows Free Academy, Fairfax in 1948. After graduation from high school, The American Red Cross supported her in going to Camp Tevya in Brookline, NH where she was learned how to teach swimming and lifesaving skills to children. She then taught swimming at a 4-H Camp on Lake Champlain, and then at Metcalf Pond in Fletcher. She also very much enjoyed going into Stones Brook at the dam near her homestead, but only when the snow was off the mountain.
Eva graduated from Johnson State Teacher's College in 1953. She began teaching 1st grade in Charlotte, VT and did so for 2 years. She then met her husband, Hugh Thomas (“Tom”) Lancaster through her brother when Roy and Tom were in the service together and Eva sent a care package to her brother with her homemade cookies that he shared with Tom. Tom said, “I want to meet the girl that made these cookies”. The rest as they say is history.
She married Tom Lancaster on August 19, 1955, in Burnt Hills, New York. Since Tom was in the service, they initially lived together in military housing in New Jersey. When there, they had their first-born son, Timothy. Sadly, Tim predeceased his mother in 1997. Eva and Tom returned to Fletcher, Vermont and rented a home on the North Road. During that time, Eva returned to teaching in the 1 room schoolhouse, then located across the road from where they resided, but needed to stop teaching at that school as their second son, Ted, was born. (Ted has been Eva’s sole physical caregiver for the past several years and we are grateful for his dedication to helping our mom).
Eva and Tom then purchased a farm together farther up on North Road in Fletcher. Eva helped with the farm work, gardened and gave birth to 3 more children: Shelley, then Thomas (who also predeceased her in 1993), and Laura.
Eva was used to keeping busy. With 5 children and the farm, she actually enjoyed haying and being in the sugar house. During these years she also was the Den Mother to her sons Cub Scout group. Eva said, in 1967, she was “teased” to come teach again, this time at Fletcher Elementary School in what came to be known as the Title I program. Also during this time, Eva played the organ at the Binghamville United Methodist Church, helped organize and worked at many church suppers and was part of the Binghamville Cemetery Association. She also played horn in the Fletcher, Fairfax, Westford Band. In earlier years, on the rare occasion when most of the family traveled, Eva and Tom enjoyed camping and visiting Tom’s family.
During all these busy years, Eva ended up teaching for an additional 26 more years until she retired in June, 1993.
Since 1993, Eva lived at her original family homestead in Fletcher Center where she was born, but she also considered herself a “snowbird” and after her retirement, spent time wintering in DeLand, Florida.
Several years ago, Eva saw a Knit for Kids ad in Guidepost magazine regarding the mission to send needy children warm clothing. Eva proudly and generously knit over 100 sweaters for the program and most recently was knitting several children's caps. When she was not knitting, Eva enjoyed, when able, “digging in the dirt” in her multiple flower beds in both VT and FL with the help of Emerson Blaisdell, Eva’s first cousin who lived with the family for 53 years. Emerson was a great help and companion and was very dear to her. Eva was also known for her ability to spot a lucky 4-leaf clover, so if you asked; she would surely find you one. Because Eva liked to keep busy, while in Florida she took chair caning classes and repaired many chairs with her talent. She also loved to watch her shows, enjoyed doing a word search each day and indulged in eating many different flavors of ice cream with real maple syrup while fondly remembering churning her own ice cream and making her own syrup years ago. And, even though Eva was “never hungry” she wouldn’t pass up a serving of sweet potato fries either at home, or when going to her high school class luncheons with her son-in-law, Mark and/or daughter, Laura.
When Eva got the urge to travel, she had taken Emerson on cruises. She also traveled to Alaska with him to visit her brother, Roy and his family. While in Alaska, Eva’s nephew carved a walking stick for her from a diamond willow tree on the family’s homestead. She cherished it and used it for years and loved to tell the story of how it came to be.
Eva was also an avid game player and her favorite game was Kings in the Corner. She enjoyed playing that while listening to 50’s music with her daughter, Laura. She also enjoyed that and many other games with, sister-in-law, Jane, and friends, namely Lisa Glover and Maxine Anderson who was also present at her passing.
Over the past year plus, Eva had been missing the very early morning daily calls from neighbor, Bob Sweet. When he would call, that would be her signal that in a while it would be time to get up and not “sleep her life away”.
Along with Eva’s 5 children, she also had 5 grandchildren: “Alex”ander Weber, who was very near and dear to her, and grew up spending lots of time at Gramma’s (and Grampa’s). And he also made sure to spend a good amount of time with her in her last days. And, Emma Broderick, Eva’s granddaughter, who has kept in touch with her grandmother over the years, along with Eva’s great-granddaughter, Emma’s daughter, Ophelia Nettles.
Her other grandchildren/extended family are Damon (& Cecelia) Broderick, Trent Broderick (& wife, Alex Basilio), and Todd (& Elizabeth) Broderick. She also had 7 other great-grandchildren: Calvin & Casey; Tucker & Anna; and Mia, Cooper & Maci Broderick.
Eva was predeceased by her husband, Tom on March 3, 2015, and, by her beloved cousin, Emerson on December 19, 2020.
Eva is survived by her devoted son, Ted, her loving daughter, Laura Weber and family, and her daughter, Shelley Broderick and her family. She also leaves, her sister-in-law, Jane Patch (and her family) who made a beautiful yellow (mom’s favorite color) quilt that lay on her bed, and a special family friend, Leslie who helped take great care of mom over the past several months. In addition she leaves several nieces, nephews, cousins and their families and many caring and thoughtful friends and neighbors.
Eva wished to not have a funeral service. Interment and a celebration of her life will be at a later date, at the discretion of the family, and by invitation only. Most likely in the spring when the jonquils (her favorite) and daffodils are in bloom.

Robert Dalton Ertl passed away on December 4, 2022. He was born October 31, 1929 in Freeport, NY, to William and Elizabeth Ertl. He received his B.A. from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC and a M.A. from the Hartford Seminary in Sociology in Hartford, CT. It was at Hartford Seminary where he met his wife of 66 years, Jean Smith. They were married in September of 1954 and lived in Meriden, Quaker Hill and West Suffield, Connecticut where they raised their family. Robert worked his entire career with the Connecticut Juvenile Court system as a probation officer and later as a casework supervisor. Robert and Jean retired first to Redwood, NY and later to Fairfax, VT where they spent their final 28 years together.
Robert had varied interests such as history, gardening, boating and bicycling and always had at least one dog throughout most of his life, including several rescue greyhounds.
He is survived by his two sons and their wives, Barry and Jane Ertel of Bethel, VT and David and Angela Ertl of Waukee, IA, four grandchildren, Daniel Ertel, Mariah Ertel, Alex Ertl and Christian Ertl. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Jean, brother William Ertl and his wife Charlotte, sister-in-law Joan Loomis and brother-in-law Lawrence Smith.

Helen Leach (Tiffany) Hibbard, 95, passed away Monday, November 7th, 2022, in St. Albans.
Helen was born on March 25th , 1927, to Silas Morris Tiffany Sr and Mary (Leach) Tiffany in Pumpkin Village, a small community, in Fairfield, VT.
Helen graduated Enosburg Falls High School in 1944 and the St. Albans Hospital School of Nursing in 1947.
She was born into a farming family. She especially enjoyed sugaring season helping in the woods with a team of Belgium horses (Pat and Harry), how sap was gathered before pipelines.
After she graduated as a RN she started working in the Operating Room at St. Albans Hospital before latter becoming the Director of Nursing at Holiday House Nursing Home, until her retirement in 1992.
In 1952 she married Lucius Hibbard, and moved to his family home in North Fairfax, VT. where she lived all her life, along with wintering for 28 years in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Where she made many new friends.
Helen was predeceased by her husband Lucius Hibbard in1992; her sisters, Martha (Tiffany) Clifford, Pauline (Tiffany) Cunningham, her brother, Silas Morris Tiffany Jr.; and her brothers-in-laws, Vernon Rich and Jack (John) Clifford, sister-in-law Betty (Cora) Tiffany. Helen is survived by her son Steven Lucius Hibbard and his partner Carol Anderson of Sarasota, FL. She is also survived by her lifelong best friend, sister, Ardelle Tiffany Rich of St. Albans, VT; and brother-in-law Daniel Cunningham of St. Albans, VT, many nieces, nephews and Tiffany cousins around the United States.
Helen was an avid reader who also enjoyed sewing quilts, with sister Ardelle, and knitting. Helen was also a lifelong dedicated Boston Red Sox fan, attending many games when she trained at Boston City Hospital, in 1946 and never missing a game on TV. Helen was upset when the Red Sox fired Don Orsillo. Helen also enjoyed traveling particularly especially Sunday lunches in Montreal at her favorite restaurant and waiter, La Sirene, and Roger Kattoura, who treated Helen so special.
She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, having been an active member of her Chapter, Captain Jedediah Hyde. Helen was also a 60+ year member of St Paul's United Methodist Church in St. Albans, VT.
Helen's family would like to thank The Villa in St. Albans for their wonderful care, kindness and compassion.

June M Dodge of Fairfax, age 90 passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at Homestead Senior Living in St. Albans Vermont. She was born August 21,1932 in Sheldon, Vt to Lyle Clapper and Hazel (Mayo) Clapper.
She was predeceased by her husband Clark F. Dodge of Jeffersonville, Vt. They were married in April of 1973 together they enjoyed antiques, travel and maple sugaring. They had a shared love for history and were actively involved in preserving the history of their family and their town.
She leaves behind her children Donna Westover of Fairfax, Vt, Susan Roberts and her husband Michael of Riceville, TN, Steven Maxfield and his wife Phyllis of Essex Jct. Vt, Bruce Maxfield and his wife Carol of Johnson, Vt as well as 3 Stepsons, Clark Dodge and his wife Pamela of Charlotte, Vt, Thomas Dodge and his wife Cathy of Danville, Vt and Steven Dodge of North Carolina, also many nieces, nephews, cousins and close family friends.
She will be greatly missed by her 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 6 great, great grandchildren. She is predeceased by one grandchild. She will be remembered by all with fond memories for all the time, guidance, laughter and love that she instilled in them.
The family would like to thank the staff of Homestead Senior Living, Dr. Donald Miller, Bayada Home Health, the staff at Northwestern Hospital and UVM Hospital for all their support and care throughout the last months. A special thank you to Caroline Burt of St. Albans, Vt, June’s niece for all of her love and support during this trying time.
Per June’s wishes there will be a small service held on Monday November 21, 2022 at the United Church of Fairfax located at 8 Fletcher Rd, Fairfax, VT 05454. Calling hours will begin at 1:00 with a memorial service at 2:00. A small reception will be held following the service on location. Committal services will be held at a future date for family only.

PORT ORANGE FL/ESSEX JCT. VT - Dewey N. Gokey, 89 years old, passed peacefully after a brief illness on October 27, 2022. He was born in Colchester, VT on October 21, 1933, son of the late Frank and Antoinette (Bolduc) Gokey.
Dewey graduated from Bellows Free Academy in 1952 and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1953 to 1956 as a Marine Sargent with the Marine Fighter Squadron. Dewey married Bette Gillin in 1956 and together they raised their family in Essex Junction. Dewey continued his military service with the United States Air Force and the Vermont Air National Guard retiring in 1980 as a Senior Master Sargent with the Defense of Aircrew Life Support.
He enjoyed many years of camping, boating on Lake Champlain, snowmobiling and playing tennis with family and friends in Vermont before retiring to Florida in 1991 with his partner Marolyn Boudreau. In Florida, he continued his passion for tennis and sport cars. He was a member of the Greater Volusia Tennis League where he enjoyed playing competitively and also a member of the Daytona Mustang Club where he loved sharing his enjoyment for Mustangs.
Survivors include son, Scott and wife, Lisa Gokey of Essex Jct. VT and daughter, Lisa and husband, Greg Riddle of Durango, CO, 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and very special neighbors in Port Orange. Dewey was predeceased by his partner of over 30 years, Marolyn Boudreau in June of 2022. A graveside service will be held May 2, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Essex Center. Memorial contributions in Dewey’s memory may be made to the American Kidney Association at www.kidneyfund.org.

Benjamin David Rabidoux, age 30, got his wings and flew to Heaven on October 24, 2022. Ben was a kind and gentle soul with a joyful smile and sincere heart. He was surrounded by sisters his whole life and had lots of family love. He was quick-witted and had a fun sense of humor. He was a huge Yankees fan and an impressive baseball player. He pitched for his high school team and continued to play every year since for the Champlain Mariners of the Green Mountain Men's Baseball League. His puppy “son” Bo was his forever loyal sidekick, always with him wherever Ben went. A true companionship with so much love. Ben is survived by his Mother, Sherry Simoneau and Stepfather, Greg Simoneau, Father David Rabidoux and Stepmom Lynnette Rabidoux, Sister Ashley Soutiere and husband Andrew Soutiere and his nephew Carter and niece Stella, his sister Lynneah Meadows and husband Thomas Meadows, and sister Miranda Rabidoux, and his best buddy, Nathan Bee. Ben is predeceased by his sister, Heidi Rabidoux. Services will be held at St. Luke’s cemetery in Fairfax Vermont on Friday, October 28 at 2:00 PM. Joshua Paul Chaplin, age 22, passed away unexpectedly on August 28, 2022 at the UVM Medical Center in Burlington, VT as he was surrounded by loved ones by his side. Josh was born October 8, 1999 in Burlington, VT to Paul Chaplin and Jennifer Stoll.
Josh was a member of the Class of 2018 from BFA Fairfax. In school he played football and participated in the Tech Center. His hobbies and interests included hunting with his father, racing, and being a member of the Demo Junkies Demolition Derby Team. In his spare time, Josh loved hanging out with his friends, especially Mayla Mashteare and Jayden Tilton.
Josh loved spending time with his family, especially his niece Harper. He was a son, a brother, a best friend, an uncle, a friend and mentor. He touched and blessed the lives of everyone he met and could always bring out a smile in people and make them laugh.
Josh is survived by his Father Paul Chaplin; Grandmother Cheryl Stoll; Mother Jennifer Stoll; Brother Allen Chaplin; Sister Taylor Chaplin; Niece Harper Speer; his Grandparents Richard Stoll and his partner Sheila Kempton and Paul and Pat Chaplin; along with aunts, uncles and cousins.
Josh will be greatly missed and will live on forever in the hearts and minds of his family and friends.

Shelburne, Vermont - Joanna (Durand) Orton Jensen, 95, of Rahway, New Jersey and Fairfax, Vermont passed away on Sunday, August 21st, in Shelburne, Vermont. Born March 5, 1927 in White Plains, New York, her parents, Genevieve (Letson) and Edwin M Durand, soon moved to Rahway where she attended Lincoln School, Rahway High School and New Jersey College for Women (now Rutgers). In 1947 Joanna married Stuart Orton, who, having served in WWII as a young Navy doctor, joined his father’s Rahway medical practice with his brother. Besides helping with the office, the Rahway Hospital Women’s Auxiliary and joyously raising their only child, Sara, Jo and Stu embarked on 47 years of weekend commutes to Fairfax Vermont, establishing a farm with Angus cattle and Shropshire sheep on 100 acres of land on the Lamoille River. Together they would found the Fairfax Historical Society in 1964, raise an endowment for perpetual care for the Fairfax Plains Cemetery abutting their land, and eventually open Glenorton County Antiques in the barn They also sailed Barnegat Bay, NJ, cruised the Maine coast, and twice took their boat up the Hudson River, through the locks, into Lake Champlain, sailing up to St Albans Bay. In retirement Jo and Stu finally gave up the farm, moved to Burlington’s New North End and wintered in an Airstream at Traveler’s Rest in Dade City, Florida.
Joanna’s personality was one of boundless grace, positivity and a great sense of humor. She was an artist and executed traditional crafts with tremendous talent. Jo was an accomplished theorem painter, she knitted complicated cable knit coats and sweaters for all of us, and in later life took up silver smithing at Wake Robin. In the 1970s she became a master of primitive rug hooking, one appearing on the cover of the seminal book, “The Basics of Rug Hooking” by Beatty and Sargent. The New Bedford Whaling Museum, upon her death, has acquired one of Joanna’s rugs, “New Bedford in 1810” for their collection.
After Stuart Orton’s passing in 1994, Joanna married Per Jensen of Speculator, New York. Together Jo and Pete enjoyed many years of road trip adventures, wintering at Travelers Rest and European travel. A highlight was visiting Pete’s place of birth in Norway and reconnecting with an exchange student from Lillehammer Jo and Stu had hosted in Rahway. After Per Jensen’s passing in 2009, Joanna moved to Wake Robin in Shelburne, Vermont, where she happily spent the remaining twelve years of her life.
Joanna is predeceased by her brother William Durand and leaves her brother Fred Durand. She leaves her devoted daughter, Sara Orton Glickman, her doting “favorite son in law” Carl Glickman, her beloved granddaughters Jennifer Stapper and Rachel Glickman, their wonderful husbands Volker Stapper and Henry Zacchini, her bright and talented great grandchildren Lea Stapper, Noah Stapper, Amelia Glickman and Clara Quinn Zacchini, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She loved you all.
Joanna Orton Jensen’s ashes will be interred in the Orton plot in the Fairfax Plains Cemetery in a private ceremony with Rev Susan Cooke Kittredge attending. On a date TBD next summer there will be a “Circle of Remembrance” at the same location.

Thomas Joseph Neapolitano, 81, passed away on Thursday June 30, 2022 at McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester. He was born and grew up in Schenectady, New York on January 3, 1941 son of the late Gaetano and Amy (Pirro) Neapolitano.
After graduating from UVM Tom settled in Fairfax, VT where he enjoyed his passion of raising animals and vegetable gardening. He also taught science classes at Milton High School for over 30 years and loved to educate young adults and help shape their lives. His talents and hard work at gardening were recognized every year with top placements in many different vegetable categories at the Champlain Valley Fair. Tom was driven by hard work and was constantly involved in an activity. He served on the Fairfax Zoning Board for many years, he catered bbq chicken dinners for large events, ran the concession at the quarter horse show at the Essex Fairground, owned the Cobweb hall in Georgia, and loved to gather and entertain people. His hobbies, in addition to animals and vegetables, included hunting and fishing, woodworking and making custom gun stocks, refurbishing various types of firearms, shooting and reloading, spending time with his friends in Vermont and North Carolina, playing the bass guitar and saxophone in several bands over the years, and enjoying cooking at home. Some of his favorite things to make included grilled steak, homemade pasta and sauce, Easter pies, homemade maple syrup, and apple pies. In his later years Tom and Becky enjoyed spending the winters in North Carolina where they would look for flea market treasures together. When Tom did relax, he enjoyed watching TV, especially his favorite show Jeopardy.
Tom and Becky Neapolitano spent 57 years together; he is also survived by 2 nephews Darryl Neapolitano of Wilton, NY and Matthew Neapolitano of Schenectady, NY; a grandnephew Hunter Neapolitano of Wilton, NY; many loving cousins and his feline companion Rusty and faithful companion Bella.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday July 7, 2022 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at A W Rich Funeral Home – Fairfax Chapel. No other services will be held at this time. WESTFORD, VT: Grace Katherine Riley, 21, died unexpectedly on June 2, 2022 due to accidental fentanyl poisoning. Grace was predeceased by her beloved grandmother, Zilda Deering of Bridport Vermont; and her sweet cousin, Richard Chaplin (Jessica Barnier) of Essex Vermont.
Grace was a beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin and friend. She leaves behind her parents, Scott and Amy Riley of Westford Vermont; her little brother, Asa Riley also of Westford; her brother, Christopher Bougor (Sierra); and her nephew, Sonny from Aurora Colorado. Grace leaves behind two sets of grandparents, Stephen and Doreen Goodrich of Littleton Colorado and David and Betty Riley of Bainbridge New York; uncle, Sean Goodrich (Claire) of Littleton Colorado; uncle, Bryan Riley and aunt, Stacy Riley of Hinesburg Vermont; and many cherished cousins and friends.
Grace graduated from BFA Fairfax High School in 2018 and attended CCV with coursework in psychology. It was Grace’s goal to complete her degree and become an addiction counselor. Grace was a unique blend of spitfire and kindness. She had an infectious laugh that could be heard from a great distance. Grace loved to play basketball and enjoyed her high school team as well as informal hoops beyond graduation. Grace was an artist who was fond of creating unique abstract portraits. She leaves behind many works of art to cherish. Grace loved fishing with her Daddy and Asa and cuddling up to binge the office with her Mom. Grace enjoyed long boarding on the Burlington waterfront and singing songs in her car at the top of her lungs. Grace loved all animals but, especially, her Golden Trooper and her cat Callie. More than anything else, Grace loved to play with her little brother Asa and always had time for him.
In honoring Grace’s wishes, we will forgo a formal funeral and have an informal gathering to celebrate her life. The gathering will be held on August 4th at The St. John’s Club in Burlington Vermont. People are welcome to stop in any time between 5pm and 8pm to celebrate our sweet Gracie.
Grace will be forever missed, every second of every day~
