Lillian (Cutting) Desso Dies At Age 69
ESSEX TOWN- Lillian D. Desso died peacefully in her home on Monday, August 13, 2012 at the age of 69 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Lillian Dorothy (Cutting) Desso was born to Waldo and Norma (Woodworth) Cutting on January 29, 1943 in Fairfax, VT. She graduated from Bellows Free Academy in Fairfax in 1961 and married Gerald Frank Desso on October 20, 1962. After working in the Accounting Department of Mary Fletcher Hospital she undertook the challenge of reviving an old country store in Jericho Center that came to be known as "Desso's". Lillian touched thousands of lives during the 30 years she managed the store. During her "retirement years" she loved every minute of the 14 years she spent at the Smilie Elementary School in West Bolton working with children, families, and staff. She treasured all of the opportunities she had to touch the lives of others. Lillian is survived by her husband, Gerry, of 50 years, and her two daughters, Kimberly Desso and Karen MacDonald. Her greatest joys in life were the days she spent as a grandmother to her three grandchildren: Haley, Grayson and Jack MacDonald. She leaves her sisters and their spouses, Laura and Mark Ovitt and Vera and John Buttles. She also leaves her in-laws Sandy Cutting, Joanne and Charles Myers, Marilyn Mahoney, Mae and Raymond Lamore, Betty Desso, and Betty Koonce along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. Lillian was predeceased by her parents, parents-in-law, Harold and Neva Desso, and her brother, Ronald Cutting, brothers-in-law Harlow (Bud) Desso, Thomas Mahoney, and Norman Koonce. Lil's family would like to especially thank Dr. Dennis Sanders at Vermont Cancer Center Medicine and his staff who provided Lil with outstanding and compassionate care. Special thanks too for the Visiting Nurses Association and their Hospice Services that allowed Lil to spend her final days with family and friends in the comfort of her home. Visiting hours will be held on Friday August 17, 2012 from 4-7 pm in the Minor Funeral and Cremation Center Route 7 in Milton. A Funeral Service will be conducted at the Jericho Center Congregational Church on Saturday, August 18th at 11 am. with Reverend Peter Anderson officiating. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association, Home Care Program, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, VT 05446-6405 or to Essex Rescue, Inc. 1 Educational Drive, Essex Junction, VT 05452-3172
