Thanks for the information Julie! I agree with Rev.Liz!  I am much more blunt & will say this:  once again this is where it comes from the SU office, always trying to make their job easier & cutting one check regardless how it plays out within our system, (lunch issue, 1 head custodian for our schools,  attempt @ busing) & now this.Pretty sure it doesn't happen often where they can't fill the spots, so why bring in an added expense just in case?

Political Issues/Comments / New tax???
« on: April 10, 2015, 08:42:08 AM »
A friend of mine just sent this to me.  I do not keep up with what goes on in Montpelier, but this is certainly one to be aware of.  Finally when we get some relief from our heating bills & the price of gas, up comes more tax.  Let your reps know how you feel!!

We are strongly against the tax increase on fuels for heating and vehicles. We respectfully ask that you re-consider the following proposed bills that will do more harm than good for Vermonters.
H.395 and H.412 propose to add up to $100 per metric ton tax to carbon dioxide. This will affect your cost, adding $1.02 to each gallon of heating oil, $0.57 to each gallon of propane, and gasoline and diesel would each increase $1.07 a gallon.
H.287 proposes to bring the fuel gross receipts tax up to 2% of all retail sales of heating oil, dyed diesel, kerosene, propane, natural gas, and coal. This equates to about a 6¢ per gallon increase for consumers.
 Please find another way.

Yes, the board/administration decided that meeting a sheriff was needed during school hours..... granted it all comes out of OUR pockets, but hope the town paid for this cost.  Like I said, I see both sides to this & with everyone's different opinions, is there ever a right answer?  (No I don't agree with the parking/gravel/black top)  It's just too bad that such a well planned, nice town office, the issue of the lot took a real back seat for sure. Hindsight.  I really don't think school had an issue with voting there, it was just they weren't notified too much ahead & being that school was in session, it was something to deal with & they did very well.  Again,  hindsight (since after the last election where so many brought up valid points about it being too difficult  at the new town office), not sure who should have decided & made sure town & school were in agreement where it was held. It turned out fine & next time, they will know ahead.

I see both sides to this: yes we were told many valid reasons for a new town office, & yes the parking there was poorly designed for sure, & we all feel $$ spent can/not be a waste, just everyone's opinion.  But I was there at the school board meeting & there is concern when we use the space during school time due to the crazy world we now live as far as safety.  That was the boards valid concern about safety & having our locked school, unlocked to the general public for the day.  Also, that space is now used every day, from what we are told for various school activities, so that space is always busy, but the school officials have to reschedule, re-plan, re-direct all aspects to make sure our kids are safe.

Per the mailing we received from school board, the budget reflects a 3.17% increase so,  for property value of 100k=$20.00 increase;  150k=$31.00 increase; 200k=$40.00 increase; 250k=$51.00; 300k=$60.00.    This is for the school only. Not sure of what the town is other than the 5.?% increase.

We are lucky we aren't in Boston for sure!  I have family not far from there & was told this morning that there is lots of shoveling to do today & the snow is still coming down good.  Others have said streets still aren't cleared from the last storm as there are limited spaces to put it.

Yes he is the best! From replacing windows, doors, to rebuilding the deck, he is the best!

Sad to see it go as now we are forced to go to Burlington, Williston or on line as other stores do not carry the selection that Staples does.  Also sad the JC Penney store is going out up there too.  Target stores in Canada are closing also; so many jobs being wiped away.  But remember, our economy is getting better.

Political Issues/Comments / Re: A student's perspective....
« on: January 12, 2015, 08:18:03 AM »
This is truly sad!!! I am hoping whomever has posted this gets some help, guidance & is shown how important he really is, before any more damage is done.  I can tell you bullying goes on way too much in our schools; have seen it, intercepted it  reported it, though sometimes it may fall on deaf ears.  We did have a fairly safe place at one time, especially for our gay students, but not so much anymore; very sad as the wonderful person that helped in that area retired a few years ago. I am hoping the friends of this student are able to talk to others & help them see the light, both sides for the student post that is saying help & for the others that bully.  Years ago I was at a basketball game & witnessed 1st hand some kids texting another student & you could tell it wasn't nice. I intervened & it stopped, at least for that night, & the look in the victim's eyes when he saw what I was doing was so thankful.  But it didn't stop & a tragedy happened. Those kids are seniors today,  they, myself &  a friend I was sitting with knows who they are; I hope they are not still practicing old habits.

It is awesome news!! Can't deny the figures for sure!  Only thing the was not spoken of & I didn't see the actual print from the SU until after the meeting, was the fact that although we were assured the bus garage would NOT be part of any deal, that it would remain as part of our school, was actually in print that we would be renting that out for 12k a year, yet we would still be responsible in the event of any issues, like a chemical spill, it would be our responsibility.  So, at least we don't have to worry about this a few years, but we need to stay aware of this!  Also, it was brought as question, since the figures are there & it's 100k LESS for us to run our buses, has any thought been given to maybe Georgia & Fletcher being serviced by us in the future at an even more cost savings?? Something the boards hopefully will begin to look at NOW rather than in a few years when contract times come up.
