I can remember many trips to the Shrine with the family on August 15th - always with a picnic, no matter what the weather. Always loved going to the Shrine and remember it fondly, especially when we were there as a family with Memiere and Grandpa.

Current News & Events / Re: Spam Calls From Caller ID RESET
« on: April 16, 2011, 04:27:53 PM »
I verified my 2008 registration was still valid on the National Do Not Call Registry website (you can check your original registration by going to the website, putting in the number and the email address of the original request). Spam calls aren't going to be stopped by this since they are not valid. If you've had any prior dealings with a company (accounts, etc.) then the Do Not Call registry doesn't apply either. If you have caller ID that is your best bet - just don't answer!

I was in the materials testing lab at UVM's Votey Engineering Bldg. We had a TV on in the lab to watch the shuttle launch. I remember everyone just standing there in shock.

Current News & Events / Re: Looks Like The Snow Has Started
« on: January 12, 2011, 11:54:24 AM »
Here along the NH Seacoast and southern Maine we have been getting heavy wet snow with 25 - 35 mph winds since 3 or 4 AM. Hard to tell how exactly how much so far, but would guess we are closing in on a foot with several hours of storm left to go. Apparently the forecasters got this storm right (1 out of 10 isn't bad, I guess).

Hope you have a great Birthday Mike!

Current News & Events / Re: BFA cutting down on the arts?
« on: October 06, 2010, 05:44:20 PM »
As a BFA graduate I am concerned that music is going to take the hit - for me it provided the creative outlet and challenge that academics didn't. Not every kid is an athlete and for someone like me who was shy, music was important to finding my special talent and building my self confidence (Thank You Mac). Music/the arts shouldn't be the sacrificial lamb. Are there equal (%) cuts in athletics? Pretty sure the cost to fund any of the various sports teams is more expensive then music. Don't the coaches get paid? Don't they have to take care of the fields, gym, equipment, more travel costs, etc...
Fairfax isn't alone with this issue as the schools down here (NH seacoast) have already tried to cut the arts in our Middle School. Fortunately they found a way to spread the cuts throughout the school's programs.

Current News & Events / Re: Big Doings On Buck Hollow Road Tomorrow

Congratulations to Josh & his lovely bride - truly wish you all the best!
As for all the burnout talk - every time I see one or the marks on the pavement, I think of Kenny.  Burnouts not realy what I call malicious destruction or damage of property (don't believe the road is unusable???). I guess everyone's perspective is different, especially if you've lived in more urban areas.

Current News & Events / Re: Checkpoint

Here in NH they are required by law to publicly notify when they are going to do a checkpoint - no buddy system to get people off, just the law.

You are correct Mr. Brown - Nancy, Carolyn and I were in the Class of 1982.

Where I live now every warrant article goes to the ballot and we have a series of public hearings that lead up to a Deliberative Session  (about a month before TMD)where every article is discussed/debated and modified as the Town Meeting voters decide on the floor.  The warrant articles are then finalized and the final warrant issued and voted on by ballot.
