JIMMY MICHAEL MESSIER

COLCHESTER - Jimmy “Baby Joey” Michael Messier, 10, of Wells Avenue, died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 5, 2006, in Fletcher Allen Health Care from complications arising following heart Surgery.

Jimmy was born Aug. 12, 1995, in Burlington, the son of Michelle Messier and Joseph Naylor. He attended school in Malletts Bay. Recently completing the 4th grade with flying colors, he anxiously awaited entering 5th grade in the fall to be with his friends.

Jimmy was an avid reader who loved to work with his computer, play video games, and watch anything he had DVR’d on TV. He enjoyed the outdoors, riding snowmobiles, go-karting and dirt biking as well as riding with Pep on his motorcycle. Jimmy loved “Guys Day Out” with his Grandpa, knowing he would get something VERY nice. He also loved to fish and hang around with the adults. He could be seen on occasion at Wendell’s Furniture in Colchester where he would enjoy conversation with certain customers. Once a member of the Cub Scouts, he will always be remembered as a giver, willing to share what ever he might have with others. A quiet young boy, he could sit patiently and whittle with his Jack Knife or on the other hand, pick on his sister Sammy and just plain drive her nuts.

Jimmy also had a great love for country music. He planned on someday becoming a Medical Doctor. He let it be known that he wanted to be a Country Western Singing Surgeon. He listened to 98.9 FM, WOKO every day and held great respect for the DJ’s at the station. He would write to the station or call his heroes, “CK Coin” and “The Cowboy” on a regular basis, hoping that one day his name would be drawn as “Listener of the Week.” He will be missed by all who came to know him.

He is survived by his mother and father, Michelle Messier and Joe Naylor of Colchester; his brother, “Hudini;” and his grandparents, Mike and Marilyn Prevuznak of Fairfax, Jim “Pep” and Debbie Messier of Enosburg Falls and Marlene Naylor of Fletcher; Great-Pepere, Jerry Messier of Richford, Great-Grandmother Hazel Naylor of Fletcher; as well as his aunts and uncles, Becky and Travis Alger and their daughter, Sam Mead of Milton, Nikki Prevuznak of Ottumwa, Iowa and Amy Prevuznak of Fairfax, Tammy Judd and her three daughters, Kelly, Megan and Nicki of Keene, N.H., Julie Brigante and David Brigante and their three children, Justin Dorey, Alec and Maggie Brigante of Colchester, Tonya and Scott McGinnis of Colchester, Steven and Kathleen Messier and their children, Spencer and Elizabeth of Essex Junction, Scott and Kim Messier and children, Jonathan, Stevie and Emily of Conyers, Ga., Chuck Safford and son, Adam of Colchester, Myx of Tennessee, Mindy and LW Mack and children, Bobby, Tyra and Christie also of Tennessee, Kevin Bushey of Fairfax, Brian and Erica Wiggins of St. Albans, Jack Wright and Diane Dubuque of Fairfax, Jason and Diane Matton of Swanton, Donny “Dawn” Curran of Johnson, and Siobhan Henry-Hooker of Milton, and Aaron and Spence Naylor of Fletcher. Cousins, Marin and Lorelei and their mom Lisa of Essex, as well as a wealth of friends from his school far too numerous to list.

Funeral Services were held today, Monday, July 10, 2006, at 11 a.m. in the Georgia Plain Baptist Church in Georgia with burial following in the Georgia Plain Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to either the American Heart Association, 434 Hurricane Lane, Williston, Vt. 05495; or the Children’s Miracle Network or the Vermont Children’s Hospital, both in care of the Development Office at Fletcher Allen Health Care, 111 Colchester Avenue, Burlington, Vt. 05401.

Visiting Hours were held on Sunday, July 9, 2006, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

Young Jimmy Michael Messier left many friends right here in Fairfax when he passed away.

More and more teen centers are popping up across the state as a way to keep kids out of trouble... Families from the town of Georgia in northwestern Vermont held a fundraising walk for a youth center to give kids a constructive outlet. An old school and Grange Hall will be renovated and expanded. The local Baptist Church is behind the project, to be called the Jimmy Messier Memorial Youth Center -- in memory of a Georgia boy who died of cancer.

He died of complications arising following heart Surgery.  He had a tremendous spirit and the teen center is a wonderful way to remember him.

"Life is too short, so love the one you got!"
