I was looking at an older topographic map and noticed it showed a quarry on Huntville road, almost near the intersection of Woodard Rd, and another around the corner on Woodard Rd.
Anyone know what they were and when they operated?
Kind of in my backyard, just curious...

Yes, we are paying for a "15Mb" service. The average speed is around 15Mb (technically we are getting over 17Mb but there is overhead that eats into the usable total). Joe Joe - Are you guys paying for 14Mbps or do you expect that number to go down as customers are hooked up in that location?
I recently had my GlobalNet service upgraded to 7Mbps (for $45/mo) and I have been pretty happy with it. I am getting download speeds in the 5-8+ Mbps (typically 6+) range and upload speeds from 1-4 Mbps (typiclay in the 2s).
I am only committed to GlobalNet until September and Fairpoint is going to begin offering DSL for customers near the phone switch in front of the General Store either at the end of this month or early next.
I will have to figure out which option is best for our household.
Welcome to the world of high speed internet at home! Fire up the Netflix!!!

man, we've been waiting a LONG time for this
we got hooked up on Monday:
14.5 Mb down 1.0 Mb up Ping times typically way less than 30ms
Can't complain, beats the pants off dial up and satellite. There are many places that have had DSL available for a while who can't get "15 meg" speeds because the equipment in their area is older.

I commute every day from Fairfax to Fort Ethan Allen area in Colchester. Anyone interested in trying a carpool? Even if it's two days a week, that's a few gallons of gas saved (and $$)!
Click on my profile name and send me a direct message here on the board (it will come to my email).
Thanks, Joe Tymecki

In the area where Woodard Road crosses Polly Brook (near Buck Hollow) - the brook has slightly eroded away at the side of the road by a foot or two. The road is passable but be careful, if you are not paying attention you'll go off the road. I did alert the town so hopefully they can throw a few cones in the road.

The space station should be very visible the next several days when docked with the shuttle (the largest man made object ever placed in orbit). It's **very** impressive - clouds notwithstanding, of course.
If you want to know when it flies over, go to the link below and crank in your zip code, look for "ISS" (international space station).

How are the prices Joe??
The prices at Athena are a bit higher than a typical diner, but 'seemed' lower than VBC. As long as we're talking diners, Libbey's in Colchester is still awesome, though only open for breakfast and lunch now.

In the absence of a restaurant in town, we Just tried the Athena's diner in St Albans this weekend, very good - sister diner (pardon the pun) to the Apollo on Milton and Henry's in Burlington. It's across from where Nana's was (which is now the St. Albans diner).

Anyone know what was happening on Rt 128 last night, just north of Westford-Milton Road around 9 p.m? There was a line of cars stopped, some turning around, people running around with flashlights... could not see much more as we were too far back (no police or rescue spotted)

When the (TV) media pick up on something and "run with it" please remember, at the end of the day their goal is to get eyeballs to screens...nothing more.

Reminds me of the song by Alabama called "Dixeland Delight"
"White tail buck deer munchin' on clover Red tail hawk sittin' on a limb A chubby old groundhog, croakin' bullfrog Free as the feelin' in the wind"
thanks for posting those pix!

You hit the nail on the head, so to speak! They are grinding down pavement today. Joe Ahh, they're probably notes to the crew as to how thick the pavement needs to be. They probably have a standard thinkness, and then add or subtract based on what the plates say. Wanna go move some around with me? LOL!
