Mirjo, if you want to tax millionaires, then tax millionaires! $400K-$500K is still a far cry from a million.

It's a lot closer than the guy whose making $30 or $40,000. Honestly, I don't believe any of it matters. The top wage earners, the top tax bracket, what ever they are don't pay that much in taxes compared to what they make. After all the tax shelters, deductions and loop holes, I'll bet most pay less percentage than the guy making $40K  year pays.

It's also highly unlikely anything in the gov't is going to get "fixed" any time soon. If you've paid any attention at all, even minimally, you will notice that the crap is the same year after year. It's always about too much government spending, too much waste, too much pork, government is too big, the democrats just want to tax & spend the republicans are only interested in big business and the wealthy, the president sucks, the congress sucks, the poor people are sucking us dry, the system is broken, we need to get rid of the lobbyists, we need more transparency, we need to fix medicare, education, social security, ETC. do you see  broken record pattern. I forgot energy, we need to conserve energy and the latest one added to the mix--we need to get off foreign oil!

None of that **** is going to happen--no one is offering any solutions, just saying the same stupid things over and over year after year, administration after administration. We are doing the same thing here on this tiny spec of  thread on this minuscule forum in northern Vt. Nobody is going to effect any change, because no one knows how. if they did, it would have happened--years ago.

Look at the hoops their jumping through trying to agree on what to do about the tax cuts that are expiring. Just let them all expire like they' re supposed to, chances are it's not going to make much difference anyway. Vt Yankee is supposed to shut down in two years, per a long standing agreement, look at that mess. What kind of poor planning is it on ANYONE'S part, know you have a Nuclear power plant on a deadline and no one is bothering to do any up grades during that time period?

Government is simply stupid on all levels and it's not even worth trying to cipher out the mess until someone in authority can fix it so it works for the greater good. Then again, there are probably too may dissenting opinions for that to ever happen.

Mirjo, couldn't agree more. System is broken. And didn't Einstein say "the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results", or something to that effect? But people just don't see it, or don't want to see it. Although we have differing opinions on some policies, we certainly agree on what the problem is.... Big Gov't, crooked politicians (not all, but most), and a population who is willing to sit on the sideline, watch the game and simply shake their heads. So it leads back to my one point... if we stop feeding the crooked, broken system... it will fail and we can then begin to rebuild using the lessons learned from previous mistakes. And I know when the "wheels come off" and the system breaks, it is going to cause some pain on just about everyone. But that is what it is going to take. And I don't wish pain on ANYONE (including Liberals and Socialists)(that was a joke!) but alot of time it takes a good, swift kick in the jimmies to realize that you are in a fight!! And we will then prove that taking care of those in need can, should be and is done at the community level. We do not need an entire bureaucracy of incompetence to tell us who needs help and how much. We see it, we know who needs it, and we provide as much help as we can. But in my opinion, we need to stop feeding this ridiculous system. These elected officials keep telling us that they are trying to make the hard decisions, the hard stance, the hard cuts, blah, blah, blah. I see the typical political rhetoric, and not much else.
