FAIRFAX PLANNING COMMISSION Tuesday, September 18, 2012

Members Present: G. Heyer, R. Wimble, M. Hunziker

7:00 PM- G. Heyer called the meeting to order.

M. Hunziker moved to accept the minutes from the August 21, 2012 meeting; R. Wimble 2^nd. All in favor.

The Board reviewed the Proposed Planned Enhancements, prepared by Lisa Derocher, for incorporating “Building Healthy Communities” language into the 2013 Town Plan. There was discussion regarding format preference. Some members preferred the ‘Chapter’ format, saying the impact was better understood if not spread out over the entire document. Others felt a “merged” plan would be better understood if presented in context with the rest of the Plan. By consensus, the merged plan was preferred and the Board reviewed the merged copy.

There was concern that Town government has no business making policy concerning health. Instead of specific mandates, there was agreement that the Town should promote an environment where people have the option to make healthy choices.

The Board had concerns re: the section on Education. There was a question whether it was the Planning Commission’s job to dictate in this area. It was suggested to “support the school’s efforts to implement programs which promote a healthy Fairfax community……”. Additional changes to the Facilities, Utilities, and Services section were also discussed.

For the next meeting Skip will update Chapters 12 and 13 of the current Town Plan. There was additional discussion regarding job openings on the Planning commission and specific people the Board may approach. Also discussed were a new Town website, a community calendar, and new Town Office discussions.

The next meeting will be October 16, 2012 at 7PM.
