FAIRFAX - The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is investigating an armed robbery at Nan's Mobil here on Saturday night. Authorities are seeking the public's aid in hopes of making an arrest.

The incident was the third armed robbery of a store in the county in less than two weeks. This time, however, the suspect had a gun. A knife was used in previous store robberies and during a home invasion in neighboring Lamoille County.

In the Saturday incident, police said a masked intruder entered the Route 104 store at about 9 p.m. and demanded cash. An undisclosed amount of money was taken and, according to reports, the suspect later was seen in a dark blue sedan.

Police did not issue a description of the suspect in Saturday's robbery.

The incident here follows a string of unsolved robberies this month.

On Nov. 3, a masked man wielding a knife robbed the Show Time video store on U.S. 7 in Georgia and is believed to be the same person who later that same night held up the Sheldon Mini Mart on Route 105.

The suspect was believed to have left the scene of the Sheldon robbery in what was described as a late 1980s or early 1990s Pontiac Sunbird or Chevy Cavalier, royal blue in color, with a loud muffler.

The robber in the two previous incidents was described as being between 5 feet 6 and 5 feet eight inches tall and weighing between 150 and 160 pounds. He wore a nylon over his head but was described as being in his early twenties, with short, dark hair, and a goatee.

On Nov. 4, Vermont State Police investigated a home invasion and robbery of an 85-year-old woman in Westford. The knife-wielding suspect forced the woman to open a safe and took jewelry, coins, and cash. He may be the same person who pulled off the armed robberies in Georgia and Sheldon, said Vermont State Police.

Franklin County Sheriff's officials ask that anyone with information regarding Saturday night's Fairfax robbery contact them at 524-2121.

Anyone with information regarding the Georgia, Sheldon, or Westford robberies is asked to contact Vermont State Police at 524-5993.
