Planning Commission Minutes                     November 20, 2007

FAIRFAX TOWN OFFICE

PC MEMBERS PRESENT: G. Heyer, A. Lemieux, M. Hunziker, R. Wimble, P. Hudson

PUBLIC PRESENT: G. Brunswick, S. Nalepa, A. Ziegler, G. Garrett, B. Nisbet, N. Miller,

J. Tucker.

7:30 PM  G. Heyer called the meeting to order.   The minutes from Nov. 6, 2007 were reviewed.

A. Lemieux made a motion to accept the minutes from Nov. 6, 2007.  M. Hunziker second. All in favor.

A group of Fairfax High School Seniors attended the meeting.

Greta Brunswick from Northwest Regional Planning Commission (NRPC) presented her preliminary analysis of the survey results.  She had a spread sheet showing percentages in various categories.  She also presented a pie chart showing results of the respondent information.  19% of the residents returned the survey.  The Board discussed the results.

The next meeting on Dec. 4, 2007, Greta will be at the meeting, and hopefully will have more analysis of the data and will try to have it in a form that can be presented at the community Forums.  M. Hunziker will also look at the data and have suggestions for presenting it to the public.

The format for the public forums was discussed.  Greta suggested the possibility of break-out groups to discuss specific interests with possible solutions. An education approach was also suggested. The old Town Plan should be used as a basis of discussion.

S. Nalepa asked Greta about the organization she was from.  Greta works for NRPC and works with all planning and zoning issues.  J. Tucker asked the members of the Planning Commission to introduce themselves.  N. Miller asked the Board if any particular response from the public was unexpected.  The Board thought there would be more call for a Community Center.  N. Miller mentioned there were many developments in her area that just recently have been built.  It is illegal to cap the number of building permits.  The existing teen center was brought up and it was mentioned that it was only for middle school students.  Village sewer and water constraints were also discussed.  G. Brunswick mentioned that clustering homes and businesses in the village

would be advantageous to all Fairfax residents – not just those on the sewer and water lines.

8:50 PM  A. Lemieux made a motion to adjourn.  M. Hunziker second.  All in favor.

The next meeting will be on December 4, 2007, hopefully with

Greta Brunswick to prepare for the Town Forums.

Respectfully Submitted,

Cathy Raymond, Zoning and Planning Assistant
